Opportunity :

We are looking for a Float extraordinaire to join our School Age Care team :

Position : Part-Time Contract - through to the end of June 2025.

Hours per Week : 20 hours; Monday to Friday 2 : 00 pm - 6 : 00 pm.

Start Date : Immediate.

Hourly Wage : $19.00 - $21.00.

Reporting to the School Age Care Manager, our candidate will have the qualifications necessary and be able to adapt easily and work effectively at either of our two (2) School Age Care Centres.

Guided by the goals and philosophy of the Parkgate Child Care Centre, and aligned with the vision, mission and values of Parkgate Society, the Floater will work collaboratively with staff, Supervisors, Managers, families and our community. Our team plans and delivers age-appropriate activities, programs and camps using a variety of approaches and through an EDI lens.

Each employee of our child care team is responsible for ensuring the children’s safety and well-being while cultivating an inclusive, welcoming, and stimulating environment.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Supports, plans, implements and assesses developmentally appropriate activities and experiences to reflect Parkgate Society Child Care Program philosophy while promoting a fun, engaging and enjoyable atmosphere for children.
  • Guides children’s behaviour in ways that promote a positive self-concept.
  • Ensures the children’s environment is safe and healthy.
  • Consistently practices respectful, transparent, and constructive communication with families, coworkers and children.
  • Contributes to the ongoing efficient and professional operation of Parkgate Society’s Child Care Programs.

Required Skills and Knowledge :

  • Sound knowledge of the care and guidance needed to effectively promote and support the healthy social and personal development of school age children, including those with special needs.
  • Sound knowledge of applicable policies, regulations, and files governing the work to be performed.
  • Ability to exercise patience and consistency in behaviour management.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with families, children, staff, and where appropriate & needed, community resources.
  • Strong ability to work well in a team setting; be well organized, flexible, collaborative and able to adapt to new situations.
  • Must possess strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willing to pursue and participate in ongoing professional development by attending courses and workshops as requested or identified that are related to working with children or teens, families and / or caregivers.
  • An understanding of EDI principles.
  • Other Requirements :

  • Emergency First Aid Certificate.
  • Clear Criminal Records Check for Vulnerable Persons.
  • Responsible Adult Certification.
  • Minimum 19 years of age.
  • Strong physical and mental endurance; the children in our care require our child care employees to be able to supervise & fully participate in both indoor & outdoor activities with active school children up to ages 5-12; the elements can be challenging due to weather, during drop-off, pick-up and inside / outside play programs.
  • 3-5 years experience in a similar role will be considered an asset.
  • Contract Details :

  • We are located in beautiful North Vancouver; this position will work at any and all of our locations which include Parkgate Community Centre and Seymour Centre.
  • This is a part-time contract during the school year, September through to the end of June; this role could continue each school year for those interested; also opportunities may be available to work in summer camps.
  • 6% vacation pay is paid on wages earned in lieu of paid vacation time.
