Job description

Job Title : Financial Consultant (6-Month Term)

We're excited to announce an opening for a Financial Consultant on behalf of an impactful nonprofit organization in the GTA dedicated to serving the autism community. This is a hybrid role with the flexibility of working 2-3 days in the office and the rest remote. The position is based in Scarborough, offering a competitive hourly rate of $50-$65, depending on your experience. The contract is set for 6 months, with potential for extension or conversion to a full-time position.

Key Responsibilities :

Hands-On Financial Management

  • Collaborate closely with the finance director and management team to develop, consolidate, and present operating and capital budgets.
  • Analyze year-to-date actuals against budget variances, ensuring effective resource utilization and accountability.
  • Prepare cash flow statements and assist in managing investment performance, providing financial reporting for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ensure the accurate preparation of financial reports, including monthly statements, variance analysis, and funder budget submissions.

Financial Analysis & Reporting

  • Conduct in-depth financial analysis to support strategic decision-making and financial planning.
  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling to align with the organization's long-term financial strategies.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements within financial operations, leveraging technology and automation where possible.
  • Regulatory & Compliance Support

  • Support the preparation and accuracy of statutory financial filings (T3010, HST / GST returns, etc.).
  • Assist in managing the annual financial audit and ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations.
  • Stay current on statutory regulations and accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations (GAAP).
  • Team Collaboration

  • Work collaboratively with the finance team to ensure strong financial controls, compliance, and reporting.
  • Provide insights and support to management through detailed financial analysis and forecasting.
  • Qualifications & Requirements :

  • CPA or MBA is a plus.
  • 5+ years of finance experience, particularly in hands-on roles.
  • Familiarity with government reporting and a solid understanding of federal and provincial statutory regulations.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and fund accounting specific to not-for-profit organizations.
  • Strong proficiency with accounting and business software systems.
  • Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, forecasting, financial modeling, and strategic financial planning.
  • Excellent teamwork skills, with a proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
