Detailed Overview

Supporting the Vision, Values, Purpose and Commitments of Fraser Health including service delivery that is centered around patients/clients/residents and families: Reporting to the Director and/or designate, Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR), the Educator and Resource Coordinator is responsible for identifying educational and safety requirements, planning, implementing, evaluating, and maintaining an effective program of staff orientation, education, and development for the regional program. The Educator and Resource Coordinator interacts regularly with personnel at all levels within the organization including Directors, Managers, and Clinical Nurse Educators (CNE) regarding medical device reprocessing services and operational activities and communicates with key internal and external stakeholders, committees and task groups as required for conducting daily business and achieving program goals and objectives. Strives to enhance medical device reprocessing service delivery regionally across the health authority, by participating in quality assurance activities. Responsibilities Manages the performance planning including setting goals and fostering employee’s growth and development. Holds MDR Leadership team accountable by engaging mid-year, year-end, and informal check-in conversations. Ensures compliance with policies, procedures, rules and regulations regarding supplies and equipment processed within assigned area(s). Collaborates with colleagues and co-workers at other locations to ensure standardization and consistency. Liaises with personnel at all levels within the organization including Directors, Managers and CNE’s and outside agencies to communicate policies and procedures and provide maximum service delivery. Ensures appropriate documentation is established to solicit input needed to support program/service delivery and/or plans and represents the program on committees. Provides leadership and guidance to unionized staff using effective management techniques (e.g., coaching, mentoring, skill and leadership development, performance management) to support the achievement of required outcomes and ensure adherence to accreditation, regulatory, and safety standards. Participates in quality improvement, risk management and infection control activities for Medical Device Reprocessing and facilitates implementation of approved modifications and evaluation of process effectiveness within assigned area(s) to ensure optimal use of organizational resources and safe delivery of patient care. Plans, develops, and implements ongoing in-services and continuing education by assessing staff learning needs, Worksafe BC orders and problems identified by the operating rooms or management, writing material, and presenting sessions. Designs programs and relevant modules, audio-visual aids, and tests to enhance learning. Coordinates the program and orients new staff by assessing their learning needs and modifies orientation program as required; provides tours, outlines the department's philosophy, policies and structures, coordinates "buddy" system orientation, evaluates progress and provides follow-up in relation to performance of basic skills and adaptation. Provides consultation to departmental staff and user areas regarding department policies, procedures and education by assisting with the revision and/or development of new procedures by either drafting or providing input; communicates procedures and education process to user groups and external agencies as it pertains to medical device reprocessing. Oversees the safety program in the department by ensuring WorkSafeBC's regulations are adhered by auditing worksite, investigating incident reports, liaising with appropriate personnel, identifying problems and issues and recommending changes to procedure to ensure compliance; participates as a member of internal safety committee. Maintains the material safety data sheets by performing duties such as updating by contacting companies and ensuring the receipt of revised sheets; distributes as appropriate. Coordinates the educational resources by ensuring that material such as books, articles and audio-visual aids are current and available to staff, orders new material, communicates to staff upcoming and relevant internal or external educational programs and current issues and trends within medical device reprocessing. Provides input to supervisory personnel regarding staff progress and performance. Identifies problems as determined. Participates in external educational planning activities by performing duties such as evaluating applicability of specific course content to target audience and completing questionnaires evaluating the suitability of a course or program offered by outside agencies. Acts as part of a team to formulate philosophy, objectives, policies and procedure by attending meetings, identifying issues, providing feedback on items such as writing material. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements. Immediately reports unsafe situations by notifying supervisor or other appropriate personnel. Performs other related duties as required. Qualifications Graduation from a recognized Medical Device Reprocessing Technician program which includes theory and practicum in MDR (CMRDT certified); plus certification in CHL (Certified Health Care Leader) from Health Care Sterile Processing Association and/or CSPM (Certified in Sterile Process Management) from a recognized MDR Certification Board, and/or Management Program from an accredited educational institution such as BCIT; and/or a Provincial Instructor’s Diploma (PID) from an accredited educational institution such as VCC; plus five years recent related MDR experience inclusive of supervisory/leadership experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Professional/Technical Capabilities Demonstrated knowledge of quality improvement principles, methods, and tools. Demonstrated leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to relate to technical data and to monitor technological changes affecting sterile practice. Demonstrated analytical skills. Demonstrated presentation, facilitation, and teaching skills. Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work. Demonstrated ability to be effective in an environment subject to continuous change. Working knowledge of applicable regulations, legislation, and standards. Proficiency in the use of personal computers (PCs) and applicable software applications. Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position. Vehicle required.
