Job description

We are searching, on behalf of our client, a custom equipment production facility located just west of the GTA, for an experienced Director of Engineering.

Job Summary :

The Director of Engineering, in collaboration with the VP of Manufactured Products, will plan, direct, coordinate, and oversee activities in the Applications Engineering, Design Engineering, Research and Development, Manufacturing Engineering and Quality Assurance departments, ensuring the development and implementation of efficient designs, manufacturing plans, and cost-effective systems to meet current and future needs of the company. The Director of Engineering will review, assess, and develop current policies and procedures to increase productivity, assure quality, and mitigate production problems. To this end, the position will improve processes to improve OTD, reducing overall costs and enhancing customer satisfaction.

Responsibilities and Duties :

The responsibilities and accountabilities of the position include but are not limited to the following :

  • Carry out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Develop, coach, mentor, motivate and hold accountable all subordinates.
  • Identify relevant training needs and opportunities.
  • Develop robust KPI data analysis applicable to the department throughput and workflow.
  • Establish strong cooperative relationship with Sales, Supply Chain and Production departments.
  • Lead the Engineering Department transformation and modernization, using 3d modelling, automation of BOM generation, file management, and product standardization.
  • Manage the introduction of new product designs, product evolution, and revisions with respective BOM and routing modifications.
  • Review cost analysis for development projects, including major milestones completion dates.
  • Ensures that projects are completed within budget.
  • Establishes and implements the strategic direction of the company’s engineering and product development initiatives.
  • Collaborates with the company’s executive leadership to develop and meet organizational goals.
  • Identifies, recommends, and implements new technologies and systems to improve products and processes.
  • Establishes, communicates, and implements engineering and product development policies, practices, standards, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent operations.
  • Maintains knowledge of emerging technologies and trends in engineering and product development.
  • Establish a strategy to reduce Engineering errors and omissions.
  • Oversees the Quality Assurance department including involvement with audits, ISO and other QA manual revision and updates, assistance with NCR & ECR resolutions assembly & testing issues.
  • Implement snag sheet procedures and timely shop floor Engineering dispositions.
  • Help to identify the root cause of equipment field issues and provide technical solutions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Requirements :
  • Physical :

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs at times.
  • Mental
  • Language : The use of the English language, both Oral and Written.

  • Requires daily communication with multiple departments to ensure maximum efficiency.
  • Education & Skills :

  • P. Eng in Mechanical Engineering is a must
  • At least ten years of related experience required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of engineering principles, design and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience :

  • 10+ years of hands-on, progressive experience in related field (rotating equipment)
  • ERP system experience
  • AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or CATIA design experience is a requirement
  • Working Conditions :

  • Hours of operation : 8 : 00am to 4 : 30 pm
