Job Summary
The Specialist Solution Management will be playing a technical subject matter expert (SME) role within the team and have accountability to ensure his / her assigned team to deliver project results. The Specialist Solution Management will ensure that documentation standards are created and maintained, and project timelines, milestones, and stakeholder updates are delivered.
Additional responsibilities include designing / testing / implementing / documenting and supporting rail PTC (Positive Train Control) and Train Control System including supporting CAD, BOS, On-Board and other systems related to PTC.
Main Responsibilities
Operation Support
- Day to day coaching and mentoring of assigned staff.
- Lead problem investigation and follow-up resolution.
- Define and implement high availability setup and maintain and improve disaster recovery procedure and scripts.
- Ensure compliance with and oversee development and execution of C&I testing strategies, test plans, and test procedures to validate that the system correctly implements the specifications.
- Ensure compliance with, all appropriate CN IT standards ( Security, Architecture, Project Delivery Methodology, SOX, etc.)
- Automate and optimise support tasks.
- Ensure that established schedules and budgets are met for specified projects; acts as a technical resource in the area of Solution Management.
- Interfaces with rail traffic controllers, mechanical, S&C personnel, as well as transportation officers.
- Deployment and management of software versions for various on-board components for freight operations

Participate in the project design phase to establish support structure for solution managementWork with project team to deliver the production solution, including automation solutionsParticipate in the T2C process to enforce the support excellence standard.Practice Evolution

Education / Certification / Designation
Bachelor in Computer science or College degree with equivalent field experience.Skills / Knowledge
ITIL certification (ITIL Foundations 2011)Detail oriented.Results oriented.Able to communicate with all levels of the company.Excellent knowledge in Service Manager and UCMDB.Excellent knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint administration.Specific skills per speciality
Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD)Good understanding in train operations and signal communication.Good understanding of Positive Train Control (PTC) architecture.Systems including CTC, ABS and Track Authority. Detail oriented.Experience with safety critical system support.Back Office Server (BOS)Background must also include design of PTC back office servers, centralized Train Control and mobile device manager.Experience in supporting Train Control MessagingLocomotive on-board system (LOB ’s)Good understanding in train operations and signal communication.Good understanding of Positive Train Control (PTC) architectureUnderstanding and knowledge of cellular and private data radio administration.Good understanding of the full range of on-board productions and communication systems used in freight rail operations including but not limited to GPS, Recording System (LDARS), GEER and other event recorders.Positive Train Control (PTC)Excellent knowledge of end to end monitoring.Excellent knowledge in PTC Messaging (ICD messaging)Tooling and MonitoringExperience in the installation, administration, customization, and troubleshooting of one or more of the following monitoring technologies : HP OMI and DynatraceExcellent knowledge of end to end monitoring.SQL diagnostics, queries and reports.Experience
Minimum of 5 years experience within a Level 3 Technical Support environment.Any experience must include designing IP networks for a rail system; software design for train control systemsAssets (if applicable)
Prior experience with railway operations, dispatch systems, mechanical and / or signalling systems.Knowledge of USOR or GCOR operating rules on railways.Knowledge of AREMA Recommended Practices for Communications and Signals and FRA Rules and Regulations Governing Railroad Signal and train control systems.Experience in system documentation and application of structured systems engineering processes.Experience with successful project implementation.Working Conditions
