  • Demonstrated experience managing an MSP or outsourced IT provider, with the technical ability to evaluate recommendations, challenge proposed solutions, and assess delivered work.
  • Experience applying or implementing a recognized cybersecurity framework, such as NIST CSF 2.0, CIS Controls, or ISO/IEC 27001.

  • Relevant certifications are an asset, such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, CompTIA Security+, ITIL 4, or Microsoft 365 or Azure certifications.
  • Self-directed and organized, with the technical judgment, initiative, and confidence to serve as our senior internal IT resource.

  • Willingness to travel throughout Alberta and work occasional weekends.
  • Valid Class 5 drivers license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead a cybersecurity assessment against a recognized framework, prioritize remediation based on risk, develop an action plan, and oversee and verify corrective measures.
  • Assess our infrastructure, applications, security controls, MSP services, and documentation; identify gaps and risks; and lead a prioritized improvement plan with clear deliverables and timelines.
  • Provide technical input to leadership as we develop a three-year IT roadmap aligned with our business strategy.
  • Manage our MSP relationship and hold the provider accountable for service quality, technical performance, contractual obligations, service levels, and resolving outstanding issues.
  • Independently assess technical recommendations and completed work, challenge inadequate solutions, and ensure external providers meet our requirements.
  • Maintain our control of system documentation, configurations, asset records, administrative access, and critical technical knowledge to reduce unnecessary vendor dependency.
  • Define scopes of work, technical requirements, service expectations, deliverables, and accountability for external providers.
  • Oversee cybersecurity controls, including identity and access management, multi-factor authentication, endpoint protection, email security, vulnerability management, and patching.
  • Assess security risks and coordinate appropriate remediation with the MSP and external specialists.
  • Maintain and test incident response, backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity procedures.
  • Provide technical leadership and hands-on support for escalated issues and complex problems, troubleshooting directly when required.
  • Oversee IT systems, user access, devices, business applications, and technology used by office and field personnel, ensuring they meet operational needs and work effectively with business processes.
  • Lead technology projects from requirements gathering and solution evaluation through implementation, testing, documentation, and user adoption.
  • Oversee technology assets, licensing, renewals, IT budgets, and lifecycle planning.
  • Identify and implement improvements that enhance operational efficiency, system reliability, and business processes.
  • Establish technical standards and make recommendations and decisions within delegated authority on technology architecture, security controls, systems, and vendor solutions.
  • Advise our leadership on technology strategy, cybersecurity, operational risks, priorities, and investment, translating technical issues into practical recommendations and business and financial implications.
