Gas Distribution Construction Assistant

Build gas distribution skills with FortisBC as a Distribution Assistant in Surrey, BC, learning pipefitting, welding, and field safety procedures.

This full-time regular position supports construction, maintenance, and operation of the Gas Distribution system. You will receive classroom and on-the-job training while developing skills in pipe installation, repairs, customer service, and software applications. The program prepares you for advancement through hands-on coaching.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist with installing distribution pipes, fittings, and components
• Support repairs and alterations to existing mains
• Learn welding and simple pipefitting procedures
• Develop small meter setting and appliance relight skills
• Use tools, equipment, instruments, and required forms

Requirements:

• High school graduation, Grade 12, or GED
• Valid Class 5 BC driver's license and safe record
• Mechanical aptitude and initiative
• Safe work habits and sustained regulatory compliance
• Physical strength for walking, bending, and lifting
