Job description

Associate Lawyer, Litigation Practice (3 to 6 Years)

Carscallen LLP is seeking an Associate to join our Litigation group. The successful candidate will have 3 to 6 years of experience in corporate and commercial litigation matters. Carscallen offers an environment that supports long-term career growth, allowing you to continue building your litigation practice alongside experienced counsel.

The Role:

  • Managing a caseload of corporate and commercial litigation files, including shareholder, contractual and commercial disputes, from inception through resolution.
  • Drafting pleadings, affidavits, briefs and other court materials, and conducting legal research.
  • Preparing for and conducting questioning, chambers applications, mediations and other dispute resolution proceedings.
  • Advising clients directly on litigation strategy, risk and resolution options.

We are looking for:

A litigation lawyer with:

  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.
  • 3 to 6 years of litigation experience in private practice in Canada, with a focus on corporate and commercial litigation matters. Candidates with additional areas of focus, including employment, construction and family law litigation, are encouraged to apply.
  • Experience appearing before the courts of Alberta and managing files with a degree of independence.
  • Strong advocacy, research, writing and client communication skills.

Why Carscallen? We offer:

  • Room to build a practice: an entrepreneurial environment with the opportunity to develop your own clients and grow your litigation practice.
  • Opportunity for professional growth within an inclusive and business-focused work environment, with dedicated mentorship and team support.
  • A path to succession with opportunities to take on established client relationships.
  • Meaningful mid-market litigation work: we act on substantive files and offer direct client contact and regular advocacy opportunities.
  • A competitive compensation and benefits structure, with a rewarding bonus program and a reasonable billable hours target.

*Please note that a lawyer-client relationship has not been established until a conflict check has been conducted and a retainer agreement has been signed. Additionally, our past results for clients are not indicative of future results as each case is unique.
