The Computer Control Specialist Engineer designs, integrates, verifies, and supports digital instrumentation and control systems used in CANDU nuclear generating stations. The work covers control computers, distributed control systems, plant computer systems, safety-critical systems, networks, cybersecurity, and I&C architecture.
Responsibilities
Develop computer control system architectures and specify digital control, plant process computer, human-machine interface, monitoring, and plant information systems.
Define system, functional, and interface requirements; prepare architecture diagrams and design documentation.
Evaluate safety-related computer systems and develop or review safety and software requirements, hazard analyses, FMEA, and reliability assessments.
Apply nuclear safety principles, including independence, defense in depth, diversity, redundancy, and fail-safe design.
Design communications interfaces across reactor, shutdown, turbine, process control, and emergency support systems.
Assess network segmentation, data flows, communication protocols, and cybersecurity boundaries.
Support digital modernization, system integration, factory and site acceptance testing, and resolution of hardware and software integration issues.
