You’ll be relied upon to promote a culture of compliance and ethical business conduct and to help ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

What you’ll do here

  • Provide timely legal and regulatory advice and guidance on compliance- and privacy-related matters and projects.
  • Act as a strategic advisor and collaborate closely with stakeholders across Canadian lines of business, including Claims, Underwriting, Brokers, Cyber and Technology, and Risk Management.
  • Support all areas of our compliance framework, including:
  • Supporting regulatory matters, including regulatory engagement and reporting.
  • Supporting internal compliance reporting and committees.
  • Leading and overseeing compliance and privacy training and awareness initiatives.
  • Conducting privacy impact assessments and data-transfer requests.
  • Playing an active role in supporting stakeholders with the investigation, management, and resolution of compliance and privacy incidents and breaches.
  • Supporting compliance policy management and governance.
  • Continuously improve Intact’s compliance- and privacy-related processes to ensure they remain best in class.
  • Identify potential compliance risks and implement proactive plans to mitigate or minimize them.
  • Collaborate with world-class legal colleagues to solve novel problems and advance Intact’s customer-focused vision.
  • Promote a culture of compliance and ensure that the organization’s integrity and values are always respected.

What you bring to the table

  • A minimum of eight years of relevant post-call legal experience in a large law firm or in-house environment.
  • Membership in the Quebec or Ontario bar.
  • Deep experience in compliance, regulatory, and privacy matters. Experience with Quebec insurance law is considered an asset.
  • Excellent communication, writing, drafting, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to collaborate and build strong professional relationships with colleagues and clients.
  • The ability to educate and influence decision-makers, with an emphasis on simplifying problems and reducing complexity for decision-making.
  • Sound judgment and the ability to assess the practical implications of legal and regulatory risks.
  • The ability to proactively identify legal and reputational risks and propose innovative business solutions.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and successfully manage multiple files and projects simultaneously.
  • Comfort with technology tools, including a strong working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience using generative AI tools is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in both French and English, spoken and written, is required, as the role involves regular interaction with French- and English-speaking colleagues and stakeholders across the country.
  • Experience working in a regulated industry, such as financial services, is considered an asset.
