Job description

Senior Geotechnical Engineer

Grande Prairie | Dawson Creek | Fort St. John | Kelowna
Competitive Salary + Bonus & Benefits | Permanent, Full-Time

The Opportunity

We're working with an established multidisciplinary engineering firm looking for a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join its team serving the Peace Region and Western Canada.

This isn't a role where you'll simply produce reports and hand projects off.

You'll work across a diverse mix of commercial, industrial, residential, municipal and infrastructure projects, combining hands-on geotechnical engineering with project ownership, technical leadership, field involvement and direct client interaction.

The work ranges from geotechnical investigations and foundation design to slope stability, earthworks, retaining structures and construction support.

For the right engineer, there's also an opportunity to help shape and grow the geotechnical practice, develop client relationships and influence how projects are delivered.

What You'll Do

  • Lead geotechnical investigations, including subsurface exploration, field programs and laboratory testing coordination
  • Provide engineering recommendations for shallow and deep foundations, earthworks, retaining structures and site development
  • Conduct slope stability, settlement, bearing capacity and other geotechnical analyses
  • Prepare, review and independently seal geotechnical reports, designs and recommendations
  • Provide construction-phase support, including site inspections, field reviews and resolution of geotechnical issues
  • Manage projects from initial investigation through design and construction
  • Work directly with clients, contractors, developers and other project stakeholders
  • Collaborate with structural, civil and surveying professionals
  • Review technical work and mentor engineers, EITs and technologists
  • Help establish technical standards and support the growth of the geotechnical practice

What We're Looking For

  • P.Eng. registration in AB / BC, or immediate eligibility through Canadian reciprocal registration
  • Approximately 8+ years of geotechnical engineering experience
  • Demonstrated experience independently sealing geotechnical reports and engineering recommendations in Canada
  • Strong experience with site investigations, foundation engineering, soil mechanics and geotechnical design
  • Practical knowledge of slope stability, earthworks, retaining structures and ground conditions
  • Experience supporting commercial, industrial, municipal or infrastructure projects
  • Familiarity with Canadian geotechnical design standards, codes and construction practices
  • Experience managing projects from investigation through construction and field review
  • A practical approach to engineering — recommendations need to be safe, constructible and commercially sensible
  • Strong client communication and project leadership skills

Why This Role?

If you enjoy variety, autonomy and being involved in projects from the ground up, this is worth a conversation.

You'll have the opportunity to work across different project types, stay involved in both technical engineering and fieldwork, and have meaningful influence over how geotechnical services are delivered.

This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer who wants more than a purely technical position — someone who enjoys solving complex ground-related challenges, building client relationships and helping develop a growing practice.

We're particularly interested in engineers located in or around Grande Prairie (AB), Dawson Creek, Fort St. John or Kelowna, BC. Hybrid or remote flexibility may be considered for the right candidate, provided they can maintain a regular presence in the Peace Region.

Competitive salary + bonus, with group benefits, four weeks' vacation, professional development support and flexible scheduling.
