Overview:

We are seeking a Solutions Architect to support a Digital Technology and Experience team in designing and delivering scalable customer-facing applications and modernizing insurance business processes. The role will help transform paper-based processes into digital self-service experiences, connecting customer interfaces and online forms with APIs, security services, content management platforms, and downstream administration systems.

Working closely with product owners, engineering teams, and other architects, the successful candidate will own end-to-end solution design, evaluate technology options, and guide delivery within enterprise architecture standards. The environment includes legacy and modern platforms, with a growing emphasis on React, Java, open-source technologies, and public cloud.

The role focuses on architecture, technical decision-making, and delivery guidance. Writing application code is not part of the responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end solution architecture across customer-facing applications, APIs, integrations, security, and downstream systems.
• Design digital journeys that replace paper-based processes with scalable customer self-service capabilities.
• Work with product owners and engineering teams to understand business processes, clarify requirements, and address functional and non-functional needs.
• Evaluate technology options, explain trade-offs, and recommend solutions aligned with business outcomes and enterprise architecture standards.
• Guide engineering teams throughout delivery, resolving architecture questions and supporting alignment with the agreed solution.
• Collaborate with other architects and platform specialists to integrate cloud services, content management platforms, existing applications, and enterprise systems.
• Develop and review solution designs, target-state architectures, and application technology roadmaps.
• Promote reusable technology assets, architecture patterns, and standards, and coach peers in their adoption.

Must-Have Requirements

• 5+ years of practical experience as a Solution Architect or Enterprise Architect, designing and supporting complex digital applications, with clear ownership of delivery-level solution architecture.
• Demonstrated experience designing complete customer-facing solutions, spanning front-end experiences, integration, security, APIs, and back-end systems.
• Strong architectural familiarity with modern front-end and back-end technologies, including React and Java, and the ability to guide and challenge technical design decisions.
• Experience designing solutions using public cloud and SaaS technologies.
• Practical understanding of enterprise integration, API design, and security, including how information moves securely between customer applications and downstream systems.
• Understanding of how content management systems fit into and integrate with the wider application ecosystem.
• Experience working directly with product owners, engineering teams, and other architects through requirements, design, and delivery.
• Ability to work autonomously, evaluate alternatives, and explain personally owned architecture decisions, trade-offs, and business benefits.
• Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions and constructively challenge assumptions.

Nice-to-Have Requirements

• Architecture experience with AWS and/or Azure.
• Experience with Salesforce Sales Cloud, Service Cloud, and/or Financial Services Cloud.
• Experience with Adobe Experience Manager or comparable CMS platforms, including deeper implementation or integration expertise.
• Experience in insurance, financial services, or other regulated industries.
• Experience delivering customer-focused digital products in startup, product-led, or Agile environments.
• Experience with event-driven integration and ETL patterns.
• Experience leading proofs of concept, technology assessments, and vendor evaluations.
• Familiarity with ArchiMate, TOGAF, or other architecture modelling approaches.
• Experience designing mobile application solutions.
• Relevant cloud certifications.
