Title: Controller
Location: Dorval, QC
Status: Permanent, Full-time
Salary: Competitive + Benefits

Key Accountabilities:
Financial Reporting and Close.
Lead the monthly, quarterly and year-end close, establishing a disciplined timetable, clear ownership and timely escalation of issues.
Review the trial balance, journal entries, bank reconciliations, balance-sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules for completeness, accuracy and unusual items.
Ensure financial reporting is supported by reliable sub-ledger detail and documented review evidence.
Internal Controls and Audit Remediation.
Own the finance remediation plan arising from Internal Audit findings and track actions, evidence, owners and completion dates.
Design and implement practical segregation-of-duties, approval and access controls across cash receipts, banking, payments, payroll, accounts receivable, inventory and journal entries.
Establish repeatable control procedures and retain evidence that key reviews and approvals were performed.
Coordinate finance responses and supporting documentation for Corporate Internal Audit and other reviewers.
Cash, Banking and Payments
Oversee cash and cheque handling, deposit frequency, receipt logs and reconciliation of collections to bank deposits and customer accounts.
Review banking access, payment preparation and approval rights, vendor-master controls, cheque custody and positive-pay exceptions.
Ensure payroll and employee banking changes are independently validated and post-payroll withdrawals agree to approved payroll.
Working Capital and Inventory Governance
Strengthen credit approval, credit-limit monitoring, collection escalation and allowance-for-doubtful-accounts analysis.
Oversee quarterly inventory reconciliations, count documentation, variance investigation and trend analysis.
Team Leadership and Finance Stabilization
Provide hands-on leadership, coaching and technical review for the finance team.
Supervise and review the work of the Senior Accountant and other accounting staff.
Act as a senior finance partner to business leadership while maintaining independence and the authority to stop or escalate transactions when required controls are absent.
Help assess the appropriate permanent finance structure once the function is stable.

Experience and Qualifications:
CPA designation with strong controllership, financial reporting and internal-control experience.
Demonstrated success stabilizing an accounting function, remediating audit findings or operating in a turnaround environment.
Hands-on knowledge of close management, reconciliations, cash controls, working capital, inventory accounting and payment controls.
Strong reviewer who can challenge unsupported balances, require evidence and drive issues to closure.
Clear communicator able to work with business leadership, Corporate Finance and Internal Audit.
High integrity and sound judgment; completion of required reference, criminal and credit checks.

What Success Looks Like
A timely close supported by complete reconciliations and clear review evidence.
High-risk control gaps are addressed with practical, sustainable procedures.
Cash, payment and banking activities have clear segregation, restricted access and documented oversight.
Audit actions are tracked to closure and supporting evidence is readily available.
The finance team has stronger technical direction, accountability and backup coverage.
