Salary Range: $100,000 – $120,000

Purpose:
Our client is seeking a Piping Engineer, Nuclear in Markham, Ontario.
In this role, you will contribute to the design, analysis, modification, and delivery of pressure piping systems for complex nuclear projects. Working under the guidance of senior engineers and technical leads, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams and customers while upholding our client’s standards for safety, quality, and technical excellence.
You will be part of a growing team that is embedded in the transformation of Ontario’s Nuclear fleet, working on critical projects, some of the most ambitious clean energy programs in the world.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrated experience using AVEVA E3D to develop and review 3D piping models, equipment layouts, piping routings, clash detection activities, and multidisciplinary design deliverables in complex industrial or nuclear environments.
  • Perform piping engineering design and analysis activities in accordance with applicable codes, standards, regulatory requirements, project procedures, and customer specifications.
  • Prepare and contribute to piping engineering deliverables, including calculations, technical specifications, piping material specifications, line lists, data sheets, drawings, reports, and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate in the preparation and review of piping and instrumentation diagrams and support the development and maintenance of piping line lists.
  • Assist with the selection and specification of piping materials, components, specialty items, and valves based on system requirements and service conditions.
  • Perform piping flexibility and stress analyses using recognized engineering tools such as AutoPIPE or CAESAR II, with guidance and technical review from senior engineers as required.
  • Evaluate piping loads, equipment nozzle loads, thermal expansion, support requirements, and other design considerations affecting piping system integrity.
  • Design and evaluate pipe supports and contribute to the preparation of standard and specialized pipe-support drawings for fabrication and installation.
  • Apply applicable pressure-piping codes and standards, including relevant ASME and CSA requirements, to piping design and engineering activities.
  • Support the preparation of technical specifications and scopes of work for piping fabrication, testing, inspection, painting, insulation, and heat tracing.
  • Provide engineering support for the procurement of piping materials, components, specialty items, and valves, including technical bid evaluations, vendor-document reviews, and resolution of technical questions.
  • Review vendor and contractor documentation to confirm alignment with project specifications, engineering requirements, and applicable codes and standards.
  • Support pressure-piping registration activities with applicable regulatory authorities where required.
  • Participate in design reviews, constructability reviews, risk assessments, technical discussions, and interdisciplinary model reviews.
  • Work closely with process, mechanical, structural, civil, instrumentation, electrical, procurement, construction, and project-management teams to support coordinated project delivery.
  • Provide technical support during fabrication, inspection, installation, testing, commissioning, and field implementation.
  • Assist with resolving technical issues and field queries by gathering relevant information, evaluating options, and developing practical, compliant solutions.
  • Communicate technical information clearly through engineering documentation, design discussions, presentations, and interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Take ownership of assigned deliverables by managing priorities, following through on commitments, and raising technical, quality, or schedule concerns when appropriate.
  • Contribute to a collaborative and inclusive team environment by seeking input, sharing knowledge, and supporting collective project outcomes.
  • Demonstrate a consistent commitment to nuclear safety, quality assurance, procedural compliance, and continuous improvement.

Technical and Industry Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience using AVEVA E3D to develop and review 3D piping models, equipment layouts, piping routings, and multidisciplinary design deliverables in complex industrial or nuclear environments.
  • Relevant piping engineering experience gained within nuclear power, another highly regulated industry, or complex industrial and infrastructure projects.
  • Experience contributing to the design, analysis, modification, or implementation of pressure-piping systems.
  • Working knowledge of pressure-piping design principles, piping materials, components, valves, supports, fabrication, testing, inspection, and installation practices.
  • The ability to interpret and apply applicable pressure-piping codes, standards, and regulatory requirements. Experience with ASME B31.1, ASME Section III, CSA N285, CSA N299, and related nuclear industry requirements is particularly valuable.
  • Experience preparing or contributing to piping engineering deliverables such as calculations, specifications, material specifications, line lists, drawings, and technical reports.
  • Familiarity with piping stress analysis and flexibility analysis. Experience using AutoPIPE, CAESAR II, or similar analysis software is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with piping design and modelling tools used to support multidisciplinary engineering delivery.
  • An understanding of piping loads, thermal expansion, equipment interfaces, pipe-support requirements, and the factors that affect piping-system integrity.
  • Experience supporting the procurement and technical evaluation of piping materials, valves, components, or specialty items is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of piping fabrication, inspection, testing, installation, and field implementation practices.
  • An understanding of nuclear safety principles, quality assurance requirements, configuration control, and the importance of producing complete, accurate, and traceable engineering documentation.
  • The ability to analyze technical information, identify underlying issues, evaluate alternatives, and develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Sound engineering judgment, with the confidence to ask questions, constructively challenge assumptions, and seek guidance when requirements or risks are unclear.
  • Strong attention to detail and a consistent approach to checking work, maintaining accurate documentation, and meeting technical and quality requirements.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information to different audiences.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, customers, suppliers, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Adaptability when working with changing priorities, evolving project requirements, and technical challenges.
