Job description

Salary: $100,000 - 160,000 per year

Requirements:

  • At least 8 years of experience in data engineering, database development, or business intelligence, with extensive hands-on experience in SQL Server, T-SQL, and SSMS.
  • Demonstrated experience building and supporting production data pipelines using SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Python, or similar tools.
  • Working knowledge of Python for data-related tasks.
  • Strong relational and dimensional data-modelling skills, with a focus on data quality, integrity, and documentation.
  • Consulting or client-facing experience, including confidence leading discussions with non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience mentoring or leading junior developers.
  • Based in or near Calgary and able to work on-site south of the city regularly; able to commute reliably or relocate before starting.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada; we cannot provide visa sponsorship.
  • Preferred: experience with Snowflake, Azure DevOps, or Git-based CI/CD for database changes; schema migration tools such as SSDT, Flyway, or Alembic; Tableau, Power BI, Databricks, or Microsoft Fabric; or agriculture, supply chain, or other operations-focused industries.
  • SQL Server/T-SQL experience of 6 years is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and operate data pipelines into and across SQL Server, including integrations with external platforms such as Snowflake.
  • Write, review, and optimize T-SQL, including stored procedures, views, SQL Agent jobs, and queries.
  • Establish and maintain data standards for naming, version-controlled schema changes, code reviews, testing, documentation, data quality checks, and reconciliation.
  • Model data for operational applications and reporting, while improving legacy structures.
  • Coach junior developers through pairing, code reviews, and design discussions.
  • Advise client stakeholders, lead discovery, explain trade-offs, offer constructive challenge, and translate business rules into technical designs.
  • Use Python for data processing, automation, and validation, and support our Python-based internal tools.
