About the Opportunity:
Our client is seeking a Financial Controller to join an established manufacturing organization in Scarborough. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional looking to take the next step in their career, with a clear succession path toward a VP of Finance position.
The successful candidate will oversee financial reporting, day-to-day accounting operations, cash flow management, internal controls and a small accounting team. Working closely with senior leadership, they will play a key role in supporting the financial operations of the business while gradually taking on increased responsibility.

Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP.Prepare and analyze financial statements, management reports, reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Manage general ledger accounting, adjusting entries, accruals, inventory valuations, foreign exchange transactions and other accounting activities.
- Monitor cash flow, working capital and financial performance, providing analysis and recommendations to senior leadership.
- Oversee inventory accounting, manufacturing costs, labour and material costing, and related financial controls.
- Review payroll reporting, journal entries and reconciliations, and oversee regulatory reporting including HST, EHT and WSIB.
- Coordinate the annual external audit and support corporate tax compliance and other statutory reporting requirements.
- Lead, mentor and support the accounting team, ensuring accuracy, accountability and effective day-to-day operations.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting processes and financial reporting procedures.
- Support financial planning, capital expenditure analysis and other key business decisions.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements, reporting efficiencies and future financial systems enhancements.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of accounting and finance experience within a manufacturing environment, ideally including experience in an engineer-to-order manufacturing environment.
- Previous experience in a hands-on accounting leadership or supervisory capacity, ideally as a Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller or Controller.
- Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline. CPA designation or progress toward completion is considered an asset.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, including financial reporting, month-end and year-end close, general ledger management and internal controls.
- Experience with manufacturing accounting, inventory valuation, labour and material costing, and an understanding of production processes.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with manufacturing ERP or accounting systems. Exposure to ERP implementation or system improvement initiatives is an asset.
- Experience with cash flow management, financial analysis and foreign currency transactions is an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and support an accounting team while remaining actively involved in day-to-day accounting activities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence and professionalism to work closely with senior leadership.
- Highly organized, dependable and self-motivated, with sound judgment, strong attention to detail and a practical, hands-on approach.
- A demonstrated history of professional commitment and genuine interest in long-term career growth within an established organization.
