Embedded Software Engineering Manager

Location: Burnaby, BC

We're looking for an experienced Embedded Software Engineering Manager to lead a team developing software for advanced medical devices. This is primarily a people leadership role with enough technical involvement to guide architecture, troubleshoot complex issues, and drive software excellence.

What You'll Do

• Lead and mentor a team of 6-11 software engineers, testers, and UI/UX specialists.
• Own the full software development lifecycle: requirements, architecture, development, testing, release, and sustaining support.
• Drive project planning, resource allocation, risk management, and cross-functional collaboration.
• Champion the adoption of Generative AI to improve software quality, productivity, and innovation.
• Establish engineering best practices, processes, and development standards.
• Help scale and grow the software organization as products and teams expand.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of software development experience, including 4+ years in embedded systems (RTOS, bare metal, or embedded Linux).
• 2+ years of people leadership experience, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
• Strong hands-on background in embedded software development with the ability to review code and guide technical decisions.
• Experience with platforms such as ARM Cortex, STM32, MSP430, embedded Linux, and RTOS environments.
• Proven experience delivering products in regulated or safety-critical industries (medical devices, aerospace, automotive, .
• Familiarity with Git, software development best practices, and modern AI-assisted development tools.

Nice to Have

• Medical device industry experience.
• C++, C#, Qt, embedded Linux.
• Video/image processing or DSP experience.
• FPGA and MPU experience.
• AI/ML deployment on embedded or edge devices.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $131115.00 - $187310.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
