Business Development Manager, Capital Markets

We are seeking a driven and relationship-oriented Business Development Manager, Capital Markets to support the growth of our wholesale distribution business across Canada.
In this role, you will work closely with our External Wholesaling team to expand advisor relationships, uncover new business opportunities, and increase product awareness across the Canadian wealth management landscape. You will serve as an important point of contact for advisors and dealer organizations, helping them understand our investment solutions while ensuring they receive responsive, high-quality support throughout the sales process.
The role combines business development, advisor engagement, sales coordination, and trade administration. You will have visibility across the full sales cycle - from identifying and developing opportunities to coordinating subscriptions and ensuring transactions are completed accurately and efficiently.
This role is 100% onsite based out of their head office in Vaughan.
What You’ll Do
Drive Business Development
- Work alongside External Wholesalers to generate new sales opportunities and strengthen distribution across Canada.
- Support coverage of key channels, including investment dealers, exempt market dealers, independent wealth platforms, and family offices.
- Identify prospective advisors, firms, and distribution opportunities and help move them through the sales pipeline.
- Conduct proactive outreach through phone calls, virtual meetings, email campaigns, and other targeted engagement initiatives.
- Maintain consistent follow-up with prospects and existing relationships to maximize opportunities and support sales objectives.
Build Advisor Relationships
- Develop trusted relationships with investment advisors, associate advisors, portfolio managers, dealer head offices, and their support teams.
- Act as a responsive resource for advisor questions relating to investment products, performance, documentation, and processes.
- Understand advisor needs and communicate relevant solutions in a clear, concise, and consultative manner.
- Deliver product overviews, investment updates, and market commentary that are relevant to the audience.
- Gather advisor feedback and share market intelligence with internal teams to help improve products, messaging, and the overall sales experience.
Support the Sales Process
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date sales pipeline using CRM technology such as HubSpot, Salesforce, or a similar platform.
- Record sales activities, meetings, opportunities, and follow-ups to ensure visibility across the distribution team.
- Prepare regular reporting on sales activity, pipeline development, and business performance.
- Work closely with Marketing and Product teams to coordinate campaigns, sales materials, product communications, and educational resources.
- Support the planning and execution of advisor meetings, conferences, webinars, and other industry events.
Manage Trade Execution
- Coordinate the administrative process associated with new investments and subscriptions.
- Prepare and distribute subscription documentation and follow up to ensure all required information is received accurately and on time.
- Work cross-functionally with Operations, Compliance, and other internal stakeholders to resolve documentation or processing requirements.
- Monitor transactions from initial subscription through completion, proactively addressing outstanding items and keeping advisors informed.
- Help create a smooth, efficient experience for both advisors and investors throughout the transaction process.
Stay Close to the Market
- Keep informed on developments within the Canadian wealth management and capital markets landscape.
- Monitor competitor activity, distribution trends, advisor preferences, and changes affecting the industry.
- Bring relevant market observations and advisor feedback back to the broader business.
- Look for ways to improve sales processes, advisor engagement, and overall distribution effectiveness.
What You Bring
- Post-secondary education in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline.
- 2+ years of experience in sales, business development, inside sales, advisor support, wealth management, asset management, or financial services.
- Familiarity with the Canadian wealth management and investment distribution environment, including investment dealers, EMDs, independent wealth platforms, and private markets.
- Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to engage confidently with advisors and industry professionals.
- Comfortable presenting investment products, market information, and business updates to professional audiences.
- Experience using CRM platforms to manage relationships, opportunities, activity, and reporting.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and virtual communication platforms such as Teams, Zoom, or Webex.
- Excellent attention to detail, particularly when managing documentation, transactions, and time-sensitive requests.
- Bilingual English/French communication skills are considered an asset.
- Industry credentials such as CFA, CFP, CIM, or progress toward a relevant designation are considered an asset.
