Job description

SaskTel Centre is Saskatoon's premier sports and entertainment venue, providing world-class event experiences for the social and cultural enrichment of our community. We pride ourselves on delivering top-notch service and experiences to our clients, and we are looking for an Operations Duty Manager to join our dedicated team.

As the Operations Duty Manager , you will be an integral part of our facility management team. Under the direction of the Director of Facility Management, you will lead, manage, and coordinate event setup and teardown activities and oversee day-to-day operations of the facility and ice operations. This role requires a strategic and proactive leader capable of ensuring smooth operations and high standards of service. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in facility management, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to lead and motivate a diverse team. To support the events, you will be working a flexible work schedule with hours varying hours in the evening, weekend, overnight and days.

SCOPE AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES :

Event Changeover Management :

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate all event changeovers.
  • Monitor workflow and evaluate work methods and procedures.
  • Schedule and oversee the facility's transition between events.
  • Attend various event planning meetings to stay informed about upcoming events and their specific requirements.

Supervision and Execution :

  • Supervise the execution of daily checklists for operations and housekeeping.
  • Schedule and manage contracted cleaner
  • Accurately read and execute detailed event documentation and diagrams.
  • Lead and coordinate staff training programs and certifications.=
  • Continuous Improvement :

  • Implement policies and processes that reduce costs and increase efficiency.
  • Identify and drive operational efficiencies to enhance performance and productivity.
  • Continuously assess and improve work methods and procedures.
  • Promote a culture of operational excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor industry trends and integrate best practices into operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety policies and procedures.
  • Staff Management :

  • Interview, select, evaluate, and train Operations staff.
  • Provide coaching and manage performance, including disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Understand, comply with, and execute the parameters of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to create and maintain the schedule
  • Equipment Management :

  • Maintain current knowledge of operational equipment, technology, and techniques.
  • Oversee the operation of ice resurfacers and other ice equipment during events and practices.
  • Train and supervise staff in the proper use and maintenance of all equipment.
  • Operate various types of equipment as needed to support the team's operational activities, ensuring safety and efficiency in all tasks.
  • Collaborate with team members to understand equipment needs and contribute to overall project goals.
  • Reporting and Planning :

  • Report any operational issues, equipment issues, and safety concerns to the Director of Facility Operations.
  • Assist with capital planning regarding staffing and equipment replacement
  • Budget Responsability :

  • Monitor and manage expenditures to ensure operations remain within budget constraints.
  • Create and revise the operations budget, ensuring accurate forecasting for equipment and staffing needs.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Facility Management to oversee budget allocation and monitor financial performance.
  • Analyze financial data to identify cost-saving opportunities and optimize resource allocation.
  • Qualifications :

  • Possession of a Refrigeration Plant Operator and Fireman's Boiler Operator Certification is required. Post-secondary certification in the related field would be considered.
  • Minimum of five (5) years in a supervisory role with an operational background in a public assembly facility in a unionized environment.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Forklift Safety, aerial platforms, fall arrest and skid steer Training Certification Course.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in ice installation, maintenance and removal
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage time effectively.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of personnel, external agencies, and the public.
  • Must have a valid Driver's License.
  • Technical background with considerable knowledge of the standard methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in building systems maintenance and operation.
  • Knowledge of The Occupational Health and Safety Act, its regulations, and SaskTel Centre safety policies.
