Senior Civil/Structural Engineer

Location: Burnaby, BC
Duration: 12-Month Contract with Potential Extension
Work Arrangement: Hybrid
Travel: Site visits across BC approximately 1–2 times per month

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Civil/Structural Engineer to support a diverse portfolio of engineering projects with one of British Columbia’s largest utility providers.

This opportunity is particularly well suited to a well-rounded structural engineer who enjoys variety rather than working within one highly specialized area. The successful candidate will bring broad civil/structural design experience, strong practical engineering judgement, and the ability to develop effective solutions across different project types and design environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and review civil and structural engineering designs for medium-complexity projects.
• Provide structural design expertise involving steel, concrete, and wood.
• Analyze and resolve technical design and field engineering challenges.
• Develop practical, safe, and effective engineering solutions based on project requirements.
• Interpret engineering specifications, drawings, standards, and design criteria.
• Conduct engineering studies and technical analyses to support project delivery.
• Support projects through design and field activities, including periodic site visits.
• Contribute to engineering standards, design practices, and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and project teams.
• Support project objectives related to safety, quality, schedule, and cost.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 8 years of Civil/Structural engineering experience.
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with EGBC, or registered in another jurisdiction and eligible for EGBC registration.
• EGBC Permit to Practice through the individual or their firm prior to starting the assignment.
• Broad civil and structural design experience across multiple project environments.
• Demonstrated structural design experience with steel, concrete, and wood.
• Strong practical engineering judgement and problem-solving capabilities.
• Experience working across a variety of project types rather than within a narrowly specialized discipline.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
• Must be locally based and able to support periodic site attendance throughout BC.

Nice to Have

• Previous experience supporting utility, infrastructure, or power generation projects.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Familiarity with CAD systems, engineering drawings, and industry-standard design/analysis software.
