Job description

Duties:

  • Scheduling patients for appointments using Community Wide Scheduler
  • Register patients for their appointments
  • Collect information on secondary stroke prevention clinic risk assessment form
  • Make reminder calls for clinics for appointments
  • Answering and directing calls and answering all non-medical related questions
  • Request and obtain charts
  • Prepping patient charts for clinic
  • Fill out forms for physicians – travel grants, Ministry of Transportation, etc
  • Data entry: Collect and enter Statistics, in an excel database
  • Ordering and printing education resources for stroke program patients
  • Set up of rooms and dismantling for the next clinic
  • Photocopy and collate documents for distribution, mailing and filling
  • Calling community hospitals or labs for additional reports
  • Faxing and distributing of reports, requisitions, prescriptions, and referrals
  • General administration support for stroke RN and District Stroke Coordinator as needed and assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Diploma in Office Administration or Health Office Administration Certificate or equivalent education and/or experience, preferably in a health care environment.

Experience:

  • Proficiency in medical terminology.
  • Previous work in an outpatient clinic.
  • Proficient in a Microsoft environment including word and excel.

Ability:

  • Ability to work in a team environment or independently.
  • Knowledge of hospital software applications such as Meditech, ADT, ADM and PHA, and Xerox.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, investigation and organization skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain successful working relationships; ability to meet and interact with people in a pleasant, professional, responsible and reassuring manner, both in person and on the telephone; tact, courtesy and alertness in public contacts.
  • Demonstrated behaviour consistent with the hospital’s mission statement and core values.
  • Knowledge of PHIPA; Personal Health Information Protection Act.
