Work Arrangement: 100% Onsite
Contract: October 5, 2026
Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7 hours per day
Hours: 35 hours/week

Position Overview
Our client, the Government of Nova Scotia – NS Housing Corporation, is seeking a Clerk 1 / Receptionist (ADM02) for a temporary backfill assignment in Amherst.
The successful candidate will provide front-desk, reception, clerical, and general administrative support while following defined and established methods and procedures. The position requires a strong emphasis on accuracy, professionalism, organization, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and assist visitors and members of the public in a professional and courteous manner.
- Operate the office telephone/switchboard and receive, screen, and direct incoming calls.
- Prepare, organize, process, and file correspondence and other office documentation.
- Maintain organized and accurate filing systems.
- Perform routine clerical and administrative tasks in accordance with established procedures.
- Order office supplies and support the maintenance of supplies for various office equipment.
- Receive, sort, distribute, and deliver inter-office mail.
- Perform routine data entry and document processing as required.
- Provide general administrative and clerical support to the office and staff.
- Ensure work is completed accurately and efficiently under established methods and procedures.
- Handle interactions with the public and internal staff professionally.
- Maintain confidentiality and exercise appropriate discretion when handling office information.
- Follow direction and work effectively under direct supervision.
Requirements
Mandatory Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
- Grade XI education or equivalent.
- Related clerical experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Experience performing standardized clerical and/or administrative tasks.
- Ability to work accurately while following defined and established methods and procedures.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Professional and courteous approach when dealing with the public.
- Ability to perform reception/front-desk duties, including greeting visitors and operating a switchboard.
- Ability to prepare and file correspondence and maintain organized records.
- Ability to perform general office support duties, including handling mail and ordering office supplies.
- Ability to work effectively under direct supervision.
Preferred Experience
Preference may be given to candidates with experience in:
- Receptionist or front-desk positions.
- Clerical or administrative support.
- Government, housing, public-sector, or other office environments.
- Customer service involving members of the public.
- Telephone/switchboard operations.
- Document preparation and filing.
- Mail distribution and general office administration.
