About the role

Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary Full-Time Lead - Data Governance to join our Operational Excellence team. The work of a Lead - Data Governance is critical to Canadian Blood Services as Canada's biological lifeline.

As the Lead, Data Governance, you will help shape how supply chain data is managed, governed, and used across the organization. Working closely with business and technical partners, you will lead the development of data governance practices, standards, and processes that improve data quality, consistency, and accessibility. This role is well suited to someone who enjoys bringing people together, translating business needs into practical solutions, and fostering a strong data-driven culture.

Formula for Success

• Using your expertise in data governance, you will help design and implement governance frameworks, policies, and standards that improve the quality, integrity, and accessibility of data across its lifecycle.
• Drawing on your relationship-building skills, you will collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to identify, classify, and govern data assets, creating clear ownership and accountability.
• You will lead cross-functional initiatives that prioritize governance improvements, resolve data-related challenges, and support consistent data management practices across supply chain operations.
• Through your ability to influence and guide others, you will champion data governance best practices and help build a culture that values data-informed decision-making.
• Leveraging your communication and facilitation skills, you will lead discussions with stakeholders to understand requirements, align priorities, and support enterprise data governance objectives.
• By supporting data literacy initiatives, you will help leaders and decision-makers analyse, interpret, visualize, and communicate data using consistent language and standards.

Desired Education & Skills

• Post-secondary education in a relevant field such as business, computer science, data science, statistics, economics, finance, or a related discipline; an equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered.
• Experience working with data governance, business systems analysis, or related business functions, including developing processes, analysing requirements, and improving data management practices.
• Knowledge of data governance tools and practices, including areas such as metadata management, data lineage, data quality, and business glossaries; experience with Microsoft Purview is considered an asset.
• Strong documentation, organizational, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to explain complex concepts to a variety of audiences.
• Experience leading projects, driving initiatives forward, and balancing competing priorities while maintaining attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, build effective relationships, and influence change in support of organizational goals.
