Job description

Estimator – Precision MachiningLocation: Mississauga, ON
Salary: $70,000–$85,000, depending on experience
Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 6:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m.; Friday, 6:00 a.m.–10:00 a.m. We’re hiring an Estimator with a strong understanding of precision machining to prepare accurate production estimates and customer quotations. You’ll review drawings, determine how parts should be manufactured, and estimate material, machine setup, cycle time, tooling and fixturing costs. You should be comfortable estimating standard machined components independently. For complex parts and geometries, the lead programmer can support you with software simulations. CNC programming experience is not required. Experience using software to simulate machining cycle times is a significant asset. What you’ll do

  • Review customer drawings, specifications, dimensions, tolerances and GD&T requirements.
  • Determine suitable machining methods, operation sequences, setups, tooling and fixturing requirements.
  • Estimate machine setup and cycle times for standard components.
  • Develop production estimates accounting for materials, machining time, labour, tooling, fixtures and outside processing.
  • Prepare accurate customer quotations using an ERP system.
  • Work with the lead programmer to assess complex geometries and obtain cycle-time simulation support.
  • Collaborate with production staff to clarify manufacturing requirements and resolve technical questions.

What you’ll bring

  • At least five years of experience in a precision machine shop.
  • Strong knowledge of CNC milling and turning processes, tooling, workholding and manufacturing methods.
  • Ability to independently interpret technical drawings and GD&T.
  • Ability to develop realistic setup-time and cycle-time estimates for standard machined components.
  • Experience with precision components made from metals and engineered plastics.
  • Strong attention to detail and practical problem-solving skills.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred experience

  • Precision machining job shop experience, particularly with varied custom parts and production quantities.
  • Manufacturing estimating and customer quotation preparation.
  • ERP systems used for estimating and quoting.
  • Software that can simulate machining cycle times, such as Mastercam or similar CAM software.
  • Knowledge of Swiss-style turning.
  • Machinist certification.

Compensation and benefits

  • $70,000–$85,000 annually, depending on experience.
  • Day shift with a short Friday.
  • Health benefits for employees and their families.
  • Employee share purchase plan.
  • Training and career growth opportunities.
