PowerBuilder Developer

Job Summary:

The PowerBuilder Developer is responsible for designing, developing, maintaining, and supporting application solutions primarily using PowerBuilder and related technologies. This role involves working closely with architects and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions, ensuring data integrity, and providing ongoing application support. The developer will also participate in quality assurance activities and contribute to documentation and operational guides within an enterprise environment.

Responsibilities:

• Provide detailed effort estimates for the software development life cycle.
• Assess service requests for validity and recommend solutions.
• Collaborate with architects to ensure appropriate technology solutions.
• Define development requirements and assist with integration of third-party tools.
• Participate in design and code reviews as part of quality assurance.
• Review system and integration testing functions.
• Develop application code, architecture, specifications, and technical interfaces.
• Test and maintain both functional and non-functional system components.
• Analyze and resolve data integrity issues with existing and proposed systems.
• Implement additions and enhancements to legacy applications.
• Provide ongoing application support and problem resolution.
• Document application code, system configuration, and software maintenance processes.
• Contribute to creation of technical and operational guides, deployment documents, and change requests.
• Perform other software development duties as assigned.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Minimum six (6) years of experience developing new application solutions and maintaining existing applications.
• At least five (5) years of experience as a PowerBuilder Developer.
• Minimum three (3) years of experience with relational database design, development of stored procedures, and SQL Server administration.
• At least two (2) years of experience maintaining and enhancing legacy applications.
• Experience with version control systems such as Team Foundation Server.
• Operational knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server and database administration.
• Strong understanding of data processing, n-tier platforms, software applications, systems networking, information security, and web services design standards.
• Excellent communication skills including oral, written, and presentation abilities.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and listening skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
• Clean criminal record check required prior to and throughout contract duration.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience programming in .NET.
• Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Power BI.
• Experience working with Microsoft Azure databases and associated tools.
• Knowledge of Sybase to SQL Server migration.
• Experience with additional programming languages and web development technologies.
• Knowledge of cloud-based services (e.g., AWS, Azure).
• Understanding of software development life cycle (SDLC) and Agile methodologies.
• Strong SQL development skills.
• Experience working in large enterprise environments.
• Consulting experience as a developer.
• Experience with object-oriented development or design.
• Familiarity with design patterns and database design principles.
• Experience with PowerBuilder/MSSQL application enhancements, file transfers, and creating interfaces to other systems.
• Experience in migrating PowerBuilder applications.

• Enhanced background checks may be required for certain confidential projects.
• Maintaining a clean record is mandatory throughout the contract.
• High attention to detail and discretion required when handling sensitive data.

Scheduling:

• Standard Manitoba working hours: 8:30 am to 4:30 pm CST, Monday to Friday.
• 7.25 hours per day, standard weekday schedule.
