Position Overview

EBC is looking for a skilled and dependable Machine Operator to support operations on the Highway 11 Interchange Project. The Machine Operator will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy equipments, including excavation, grading, site preparation, road construction, utility installation, and general earthworks.

This is a full-time, on-site position based in Abbotsford, with multiple shifts available as required. The successful candidate will report directly to the Site Superintendent.

The ideal candidate is safety-focused, reliable, experienced with heavy equipment, and able to work effectively as part of a construction crew.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate heavy equipment such as excavators, loaders, skid steers, dozers, graders, and other construction machinery.
  
• Perform excavation, trenching, grading, backfilling, loading, and material placement as required.
  
• Operate equipment according to project specifications, site plans, and direction from the Foreman or Site Supervisor.
  
• Complete daily equipment inspections and report any mechanical issues, damage, or maintenance requirements.
  
• Maintain proper grades, elevations, slopes, and drainage according to plans and specifications.
  
• Work safely around underground utilities, workers, vehicles, and other equipment.
  
• Assist with site preparation, road construction, underground utility installation, and general civil construction activities.
  
• Communicate effectively with ground crews, laborers, pipelayers, surveyors, and supervisors.
  
• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and site-specific requirements.
  
• Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  
• Perform basic equipment maintenance such as greasing, cleaning, and fluid checks.
  
• Assist the crew with general construction duties when equipment operation is not required.
  
• Complete required paperwork, equipment logs, and daily reports as needed.
  
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Foreman or Project Supervisor.
  

Requirements

• Previous experience operating heavy equipment in civil construction is preferred.
  Experience with excavators, loaders, skid steers, dozers, graders, or similar equipment.
• Ability to read and understand construction plans, grades, and site instructions is an asset.
  
• Knowledge of excavation, grading, trenching, and underground utility work is an asset.
  
• Valid driver's license is preferred.
  
• Relevant equipment/operator certifications are an asset.
  
• Strong understanding of construction site safety practices.
  
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  
• Ability to work flexible hours, including overtime when required.
  
• Reliable transportation to and from job sites.
  
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  
• Ability to work independently while following direction from supervisors.
  

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit and operate equipment for extended periods.
  
• Ability to climb on and off heavy equipment safely.
  
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials when required.
  
• Ability to work on uneven terrain and in various weather conditions.
  
• Ability to perform general construction duties when required.
  

Work Environment

This is a hands-on position that requires working primarily outdoors on active civil construction sites. The successful candidate must be comfortable working around heavy equipment, construction materials, uneven surfaces, dust, noise, and changing weather conditions.

In accordance with applicable pay transparency legislation, EBC Inc. has included the expected salary range for this role, which is $46-$49 per hour. Compensation within the range is determined based on relevant experience, qualifications, localization, and internal equity.
