Plant Engineer

Job Description

An international mining and industrial technology organisation is seeking an experienced Plant Engineer to oversee engineering standards, plant optimisation, engineering projects and technical compliance within a production environment.

The position covers the full engineering project lifecycle — from conceptual and detailed design through construction, implementation, commissioning and handover.

The engineer will also provide technical leadership around plant equipment, automation, control systems, reliability and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage engineering projects from concept and detailed design through implementation, testing and handover.
  
• Design and improve production facilities, plant equipment and engineering systems.
  
• Support automation and plant control systems.
  
• Develop equipment repair and maintenance procedures.
  
• Analyse production and engineering performance data.
  
• Identify opportunities to improve plant availability, reliability and efficiency.
  
• Maintain and upgrade production software and control systems.
  
• Commission plant, production equipment and engineering systems.
  
• Conduct engineering audits and continuous-improvement initiatives.
  
• Investigate engineering problems and provide technical solutions.
  
• Work closely with operations, contractors, engineering teams and other stakeholders.
  
• Develop and maintain engineering standards and technical documentation.
  
• Manage engineering databases and technical information.
  
• Manage third-party contractors and service-level agreements.
  
• Ensure engineering projects comply with applicable health, safety, explosives and regulatory requirements.
  

Minimum Requirements

• BSc Engineering, BTech Engineering or another relevant scientific/technical tertiary qualification.
  
• Approximately 5+ years' engineering experience.
  
• At least 3 years' experience within a manufacturing or production environment.
  
• Experience managing engineering projects.
  
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
  
• Understanding of engineering design and practical implementation.
  
• Experience working with plant equipment and production systems.
  
• Computer literacy, including engineering/CAD applications.
  
• Strong stakeholder and contractor-management ability.
  

Advantageous

• Professional Engineer registration.
  
• Project Management certification.
  
• Automation or control-system experience.
  
• Mining, explosives, chemicals or process-manufacturing exposure.
  

Ideal Candidate

The strongest candidates will combine hands-on plant engineering capability with project delivery experience, rather than being purely maintenance engineers or purely design engineers.

Requirements
