Position Overview
The Government of Nova Scotia – NS Housing Corporation is seeking a Clerk 1 / Receptionist (ADM02) to provide front-office reception and general clerical support at the Middleton office.
The successful candidate will perform a variety of standardized clerical tasks using defined and established methods and procedures, with a strong emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail. The position works under direct supervision and requires professional interaction with members of the public and internal staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and assist members of the public in a professional and courteous manner.
- Operate the office switchboard and direct incoming calls appropriately.
- Prepare, organize, process, and file correspondence in accordance with established procedures.
- Maintain accurate and organized files and records.
- Order supplies for various office equipment as required.
- Receive, sort, and distribute inter-office mail.
- Provide general clerical and administrative support to the office.
- Follow established methods, procedures, and instructions when completing assigned tasks.
- Ensure clerical work is completed accurately and efficiently.
- Perform other related clerical duties as assigned under direct supervision.
Requirements
Mandatory Qualifications
Candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Grade XI education plus related experience, OR
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Related clerical/reception experience.
- Ability to perform standardized clerical duties using established methods and procedures.
- Strong emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to interact professionally with the public and office staff.
- Ability to work effectively under direct supervision.
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Previous experience in a receptionist, clerk, administrative assistant, or general office support role.
- Experience greeting members of the public and handling front-desk inquiries.
- Experience operating a switchboard or handling a high volume of incoming calls.
- Experience preparing and filing correspondence and maintaining office records.
- Experience ordering and tracking office supplies.
- Experience handling and distributing incoming/outgoing or inter-office mail.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Professional and courteous customer-service approach.
Work Environment
This is an on-site position based at the Government of Nova Scotia / NS Housing Corporation office at:
101 Magee, Middleton, Nova Scotia
The successful candidate will be expected to work 5 days per week, 7 hours per day during the assignment.
