Job Summary – Technology Buyer (Refurbished)

We are seeking an experienced and entrepreneurial Technology Buyer to build and maintain a consistent pipeline of used laptops, desktops, tablets, and related technology assets that can be refurbished, repaired, and resold profitably through Quantum's channels.

The Laptop & Technology Buyer is responsible for sourcing and purchasing used, refurbished, and repairable technology parts & equipment from a variety of channels, including resellers, brokers, wholesalers, lease returns, corporate refresh projects, and other market sources. This individual will develop a structured purchasing strategy, establish vendor relationships, analyze market trends, evaluate buying opportunities, and ensure purchased inventory meets Quantum's profitability objectives.

Success in this role requires strong commercial judgment, persistence, analytical thinking, and the ability to continuously learn from previous buying decisions to improve future purchasing outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Inventory Acquisition & Sourcing

• Develop and execute a proactive strategy to source laptops, desktops, tablets, and other technology assets and parts.
• Build a predictable and sustainable buying rhythm that ensures a steady flow of inventory into Quantum for refurbishment, and necessary parts for repair.
• Identify and develop relationships with brokers, wholesalers, refurbishers, lease companies, OEM partners, financial institutions, educational institutions, and corporate sellers.
• Source parts & equipment that can be refurbished, repaired, remarketed, or sold through Quantum's existing channels.
• Evaluate equipment condition, configuration, age, marketability, and resale potential.

Market Intelligence

• Track market pricing, supply trends, and demand for key technology categories.
• Monitor resale values and market movements across major brands including Dell, HP, Lenovo, Apple, Microsoft, and others.
• Analyze purchasing performance and adjust buying strategies based on profitability and inventory turnover.
• Stay informed on emerging technology trends and market opportunities.

Financial & Commercial Management

• Negotiate pricing and purchasing terms with suppliers.
• Ensure all purchases meet established margin and profitability requirements.
• Develop return-on-investment models and profitability forecasts for buying opportunities.
• Manage purchasing budgets and inventory targets.
• Work closely with finance and operations teams to optimize inventory turns and cash flow.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Coordinate with production, refurbishment, sales, and e-commerce teams to understand current and future product requirements.
• Align purchasing activities with customer demand and sales forecasts.
• Provide recommendations regarding inventory strategy, pricing, and market opportunities.

Reporting & Process Improvement

• Maintain accurate purchasing records and vendor information.
• Track buying performance against KPIs.
• Identify trends from successful and unsuccessful purchases and continuously refine buying decisions.
• Create scalable processes and reporting structures to support growth.

Qualifications:

Required

• 3+ years of experience in technology purchasing, electronics procurement, ITAD, refurbishment, distribution, or related industries.
• Strong understanding of laptop, desktop, tablet, and technology hardware markets.
• Experience negotiating purchases and managing supplier relationships.
• Strong financial acumen and analytical skills.
• Excellent organizational and time-management capabilities.
• Highly self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools.

Preferred

• Experience in ITAD, electronics recycling, technology resale, or refurbishing industries.
• Established network of technology suppliers, brokers, or wholesalers.
• Experience buying used, refurbished, or repairable technology equipment.
• Familiarity with e-commerce and secondary technology markets.
