Our client is a growing engineering and building science consulting firm based in Burnaby, BC, supporting projects across the Greater Vancouver Area, Fraser Valley, Okanagan, and Vancouver Island.

With a lean and collaborative team, they provide mechanical, electrical, building science, and other engineering consulting services. As their project portfolio continues to expand, they are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to take on a key technical and leadership role within their growing Mechanical & Electrical division.

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with a strong HVAC background to join the team and play a key role in delivering projects while helping lead and develop the mechanical team.

Reporting directly to the Principal, you will have the opportunity to take ownership of projects, work directly with clients, and provide technical guidance to a team of 2–3 EITs and Technologists.

This is a strong opportunity for a senior engineer who is looking for more than a traditional consulting role and is interested in having a meaningful impact on a growing business.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of mechanical engineering projects, with a strong focus on HVAC
• Provide technical direction and mentorship to 2–3 EITs and Technologists
• Review and guide mechanical designs, calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports
• Coordinate mechanical engineering work with clients, architects, contractors, and other engineering disciplines
• Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, and deliverables
• Participate in client meetings, site reviews, and project coordination
• Support the team through technical problem-solving and design decisions
• Ensure designs and project deliverables meet applicable codes, standards, and client requirements
• Contribute to proposals, client relationships, and business development activities
• Help grow the mechanical practice as the company continues to expand
• Support the ongoing development and training of junior and intermediate team members

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; M.A.Sc. is an asset
• Registered P.Eng. with Engineers and Geoscientists BC in good standing, or immediately eligible for registration in BC
• 10+ years of consulting engineering experience, including at least 5 years in a senior or lead design role
• Demonstrated experience sealing mechanical designs and issuing Letters of Assurance under the BCBC
• Strong command of ASHRAE standards, BC Energy Step Code, and current BC decarbonization requirements
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects and clients concurrently while maintaining budget and schedule
• Valid Class 5 BC driver’s licence and access to a vehicle for site work
• Legally eligible to work in Canada

Preferred

• Experience with MURB and strata renewal projects, including mechanical equipment replacement programs
• Familiarity with depreciation reports under the BC Strata Property Act
• Experience with municipal or institutional portfolios and public-sector procurement
• CEM, CMVP, LEED AP, or equivalent designation
• Energy modelling experience using IES VE, eQUEST, EnergyPlus, or similar platforms
• Experience with utility incentive programs
• Proficiency with Revit MEP, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam
• Strong HVAC experience; plumbing experience is considered an asset
