Island Health is seeking a full-time or part-time Psychiatrist to primarily work in an outpatient setting, caring for an adult population of patients with a wide spectrum of psychiatric and substance use diagnoses.
The candidate must be comfortable in working with the persistently mentally ill, personality disordered, and co-morbid populations, and within the framework of a community and recovery focused program.
The successful candidate would provide services at the MHSU outpatient clinic and support ACT / ACSS services in the community.
Caseload is shared with the current psychiatrist, and there are currently no on-call responsibilities after-hours or on weekends or holidays.
The suitable candidate should be flexible within a growing and changing clinical environment, and comfort with a collaborative and consultative service are imperative.
Collaboration within a regional system of care includes coordination with the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital Department of Psychiatry.
Membership in the Central Island Division includes the option of attending Nanaimo Department of Psychiatry meetings, and connecting with colleagues in Nanaimo and Parksville.

May be eligible for additional remuneration in accordance with the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA), including (subject to change) :
- Recruitment Incentive : up to a maximum of $10,000 (pro-rated based on FTE)
- Relocation : up to a maximum of $15,000 (amount based on location relocating from)
- Flat fee : $9,186.12
- Fee Premium : 7.98%
- CME : $3,000 / annum year 3-4 and $6,000 / annum after 4 years in the community.
Any of our part-time positions can be combined with other available part-time positions to create a rewarding and diverse full-time Psychiatry practice.

- Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) - Desired
- Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) eligible - Mandatory
- Eligible for licensure in British Columbia
