Job Summary

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Culture Programs support the development, coordination, and promotion of high-quality Culture programs and services in the literary, digital and visual arts delivered at a variety of art centres, community centres and historical sites across Mississauga.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work within a programming team to plan, develop and implement Culture Programs including but not limited to evening and weekend courses, camps and weekday school programs
  • Provide customer service, resolve issues and communicate changes/cancellations of programs
  • Under the direction of the Supervisor, assist with functional guidance of part-time staff, including evaluations, scheduling, hiring/contracting and training and support with participant behaviour management
  • Manage volunteer, co-op and intern recruitment, training and assist with functional guidance
  • Assist with regular program visits, High Five® Quest 2 evaluations, program planning and support material development
  • Assist with the development, design and delivery of literary, digital, and visual arts programs and camps
  • Assist by liaising with facility staff to ensure spaces are prepared, safe and operational
  • Assist Supervisor with responding to ad-hoc programming requests including workshops, special events and outreach initiatives
  • Provide administrative support including but not limited to part-time payroll, program outline review, class lists, program hand-outs, equipment & supply inventory and program entry in ActiveNet Recreation Management Software
  • Responsible for maintaining inventory including supply delivery, tracking and equipment
  • Support the execution of team initiatives including but not limited to Poet Laureate program, and/or Resident Artist program
  • Work a varied schedule including evenings and weekends; ability to travel between multiple Recreation and Culture sites within the city for time-sensitive work-related travel
  • Assist with special projects as needed

Skills and Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary Degree or Diploma in Fine Arts, Arts Administration, Education or related field with a minimum of 3 years’ related experience in an arts education setting
  • Formal training or additional certifications outside of a post-secondary degree or diploma in literary, digital and visual arts is an asset
  • A valid Standard First Aid certificate with CPR B or C (lifesaving Society, Canadian Red Cross Society, St John’s Ambulance) at employees’ expense or; a valid Intermediate First Aid (lifesaving Society) at employees’ expense
  • High Five® Principles of Healthy Childhood Development and Quest 2 certification
  • Knowledge and experience of arts program design and delivery; instructional fill-in may be required
  • Highly motivated self-starter; excellent oral and written communication skills; team player; ability to work in a changing environment
  • Proficient use of R3/SAP, SharePoint, Microsoft Office and ActiveNet software is an asset
  • Experience using art & design digital software, or experience with the Ontario Curriculum (K-Gr 12) is an asset
  • Attention to detail in emergency situations
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the development, design and delivery of visual arts programs and camps
  • Ability to provide instructional fill-in and break coverage on an as needed basis across a variety of arts programs will be required.
  • Highly motivated self-starter; excellent oral and written communication skills; team player; ability to work in a changing environment

Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 38.90 - $ 51.87
Hours of Work: up to 35
Work Location: Living Arts Centre
