Job Description

The Operational Solutions and Technologies team is dedicated to delivering innovative solutions that enhance the resilience, efficiency, and sustainability of critical infrastructure, systems, and engineering projects. Leveraging expertise in cybersecurity, telecommunications, IT/OT convergence, intelligent automation, software and systems engineering, and systems integration, the team develops resilient, scalable, and optimized solutions that ensure the long-term sustainability of infrastructure throughout its lifecycle. Join us and immerse yourself in a dynamic, innovative, and collaborative environment where you’ll make a real impact. Together, we’ll push boundaries and go above what’s expected of us to meet the challenges of tomorrow and engineer a better world!

CIMA+ offices in Western Canada are on a strong growth trajectory, creating opportunities to contribute to exciting and complex projects, develop new skills, take on new challenges, and advance your career within the organization.

As a Telecom Engineer-in-Training (EIT), you will be engaged in the design and delivery of mission-critical telecommunications systems across a variety of projects for CIMA+'s key clients. Our telecommunications team works with industrial and public-sector clients across power utilities, energy, transportation, telecommunications carriers, and other critical infrastructure sectors.

Working under the guidance and supervision of experienced engineers, you will contribute to telecommunications system design, engineering drawings and technical deliverables; perform engineering calculations and technical analyses; coordinate with other engineering disciplines; and support project teams in developing practical, reliable and resilient telecommunications solutions across a broad range of wired and wireless applications.

This position provides an opportunity to gain hands-on engineering experience, develop your technical and professional competencies, and progress toward Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration while working alongside experienced telecommunications professionals. This hybrid role can be based out of our offices in Vancouver, Kelowna, Calgary or Edmonton.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Support the development of telecommunications system designs and engineering deliverables under the guidance and supervision of experienced engineers.
  • Prepare and update network diagrams, schematics, block diagrams, interconnection diagrams and other engineering drawings.
  • Assist with engineering calculations, technical analyses, equipment selection and design documentation.
  • Support the preparation of technical specifications, design reports, bills of materials, equipment lists and procurement documentation.
  • Assist with project scopes, estimates, proposals, schedules and other project documentation.
  • Participate in design reviews and interdisciplinary coordination activities.
  • Support equipment evaluation, staging, FAT/SAT, installation, testing and commissioning activities.
  • Participate in site visits, field investigations and data collection as required.
  • Coordinate with internal project teams, clients, vendors and contractors under the direction of senior project team members.
  • Support responses to site information requests and preparation of record drawings and project closeout documentation.
  • Develop knowledge of applicable engineering standards, client requirements and CIMA+ engineering practices and procedures.
  • Actively develop the technical and professional competencies required for progression toward Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering or an equivalent engineering discipline.
  • Registered as, or eligible for registration as, an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with the applicable provincial engineering regulator.
  • New graduate or up to 2 years of relevant engineering experience in telecommunications, networking, electrical systems, control/automation or related fields. Co-op, internship and relevant academic project experience are valued.
  • Strong interest in telecommunications systems and their application in operationally critical or mission-critical environments, with a basic understanding of telecommunications and networking fundamentals.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, written and verbal communication skills, with the ability and willingness to learn and work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Integrity, team spirit, and a commitment to excellence

Technical Experience

Academic, co-op, internship, project or work exposure to one or more of the following technologies would be considered an asset. Candidates are not expected to have experience across all areas.
