Your Opportunity:

Working independently under the general direction of the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Director, Finance and Procurement provides strategic leadership, counsel/advise, expertise and integrity in the planning, management and administration of all financial resources and procurement activities for the Faculty of Dentistry. The Director, Finance and Procurement has a broad and complex set of responsibilities to ensure the Faculty’s financial and procurement goals, objectives and priorities are met; and, in ensuring that the resource implications of these activities for the academic, research, Continuing Dental Education (CDE) and clinic operations are identified and addressed.

The incumbent is responsible for the planning and development of the Faculty of Dentistry’s annual budgets (academic, research, CDE and dental clinics). Under the direction of the CAO, the incumbent plans and develops short and long‐term academic budget planning and modelling. The Director of Finance and Procurement ensures the dental clinics financial matters align with the overall Faculty’s strategic budget model and academic plan as it relates to the dental clinics. The incumbent oversees and administers the annual budget process for ancillary fees, including procurement of hundreds of items for undergraduate, graduate and non-degree programs. The incumbent works closely with the CAO, Director of Clinical Affairs, Associate Director of Clinical Operations and clinic staff to ensure that clinic revenues are maximized and expenditures are controlled.

The incumbent is also responsible for planning and implementing strategic procurement including sourcing strategy, supplier selection and evaluation, quality management, customer relationship management and performance assessment along with the oversight of the Faculty’s e‐commerce and clinic patient registration system from a financial perspective.

The Director is responsible for delivering data that support key priorities of the Faculty. The incumbent oversees the use of data, reporting and analytics products that generate insights for the Faculty.

Qualifications Required:

EDUCATION:

University degree (Master's level preferred) in business/commerce/accounting/ with a recognized professional accounting designation such as CMA, CGA, CPA or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum of 5 years related experience in University administration or the public sector. Experience with UofT and a strong knowledge of University financial and procurement policies and procedures is preferred. Experience in large public sector or clinical environment an asset. Ability to effectively communicate technical accounting principles to non‐accounting people, ideas and information in written and oral format to Faculty leadership, administrative staff, faculty members and students. Demonstrated expertise in budget planning, financial management and control, as well as administration of budget and resources. Experience with strategic planning, scenario analysis, forecasting and experience working in a team environment across diverse constituents and stakeholders.

Extensive contract management experience. Experience in the application of sound financial principles and practices. Experience in effectively communicating financial information to departmental administrators. Proven experience in Human Resources Management, preferably in a unionized environment.

SKILLS:

Excellent financial management, organizational and analytical skills. Excellent communication skills. Strong leadership. Strong problem solving and decision‐making skills. Demonstrated superior planning, budgeting and project management skills. Strong computer skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel. Experience with FIS, HRIS, and AMS platforms and other reporting platforms. SAP knowledge an asset. Effective negotiator with superior interpersonal and multi‐tasking skills.

Proven ability to think strategically, build effective teams and work effectively with people at all levels of the organization, work independently as well as part of a team, and ability to be self‐directed and take initiative. A collaborative and consultative management style as well as the ability to foster and maintain effective relationships. Ability to understand and solve complex problems, often under pressure, requiring extensive follow‐ up with both internal and external constituencies. Ability to analyze and understand problems from multiple perspectives, in order to understand the impact on multiple areas and determine the optimal solution. Ability to balance different opinions and perspectives and find solutions in a positive, consensus‐ building manner. Keen attention to detail and accuracy. Proven ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion, tact, and good judgment at all times. Knowledgeable in the areas of equity, diversity, and inclusion as it relates to daily operations and Faculty initiatives. Proven ability to deal with a variety of tasks and meet strict deadlines. Ability to frequently adjust priorities.
