Job description

It’s not a package. It’s a promise®.

As Canada’s leading integrated freight, package, and logistics provider, we’ve been helping promises get where they need to be for more than 60 years. How does the magic happen? The journey starts with you. The places we go, the elements we brave, the promises we deliver – it’s all possible because of our people. So, whether you’re looking to build new skills, make an impact in your community, or inspire your team, we go there for you.

Description

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Fleet Engineering, the Fleet Engineer will help shape and deliver Purolator’s transition to a safer, smarter, and more sustainable ground fleet. Working with Fleet Engineering, EPMO, Regional Operations, OEMs, and other partners, this role leads the assessment, planning, testing, and deployment of electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, and emerging fleet technologies across Canada.

The successful candidate will apply the “Right Vehicle, Right Route” principle to match vehicle capability with route, cargo, facility, lifecycle, and financial requirements; develop business cases and analytical tools; support commissioning, training, and change adoption; and use fleet data to improve safety, reliability, utilization, and cost

Responsibilities

This role will support, and be a key member of, the Fleet team responsible for Purolator Fleet’s strategic and tactical electrification priorities, such as:

  • Deploy current and future electric charging solutions for all types of Purolator electric vehicles to meet corporate greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets.
  • Lead scenario modeling and strategic fleet planning to optimize vehicle deployment, ensuring the right vehicle is assigned to the right route while evaluating operational, capacity, lifecycle, and financial impacts to inform deployment and investment decisions.
  • Act as the Fleet lead at multiple terminals, driving the facility changes required to support the electrification of the Purolator Fleet. Provide charging solutions that minimize the impact on our customers and make the transition as transparent as possible.
  • Lead end-to-end fleet technology assessment and adoption, from market research and technology scouting through evaluation, business-case development, pilot testing, and deployment, ensuring solutions align with operational requirements, strategic priorities, and financial objectives.
  • Provide change leadership and apply an understanding of project management to the sourcing, delivery, and activation of electrical infrastructure across Canada.
  • Support our Regional Fleet Managers and Technicians with the training, processes, tools, and facility changes required to support the electrification of the Purolator Fleet.
  • Analyze data to perform predictive analytics leading to opportunities for improvement.
  • Maintain industry involvement focused on electric charging infrastructure through associations, publications, newsletters, conferences, and extensive networking.
  • Work closely with OEM suppliers to enhance current specifications and design new safety and productivity features, with a focus on maintenance intervals and repair times.
  • Initiate and develop tracking tools to measure project accountability, results, and timely execution.
  • Design, develop, maintain, and support analytical tools by using fleet information from different sources such as Telematics, GIS, and SAP-TM.

Education

  • Engineering degree, preferably in mechanical, electrical, or environmental engineering

Experience

  • 2–5 years of industry experience in the automotive, electrical, or a related industry.
  • Experience deploying and maintaining electrical infrastructure and electric vehicle charging systems.
  • Ability to interpret engineering and electrical drawings and apply relevant electrical codes and standards.
  • Knowledge of vehicles, automotive components and safety regulations, and industrial electrical equipment.
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills to diagnose failures, determine root causes, and implement solutions that enhance fleet reliability, safety, and performance.
  • Demonstrated analytical mindset in process development and management, leveraging Lean Six Sigma (LSS), and continuous improvement methodologies, to develop, optimize, and standardize processes
  • Advanced spreadsheet and database skills for data analysis and KPI development.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, supported by strong Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Strong financial acumen and the ability to prepare business cases for executive leadership.
  • Experience with project delivery methodologies and project management tools.

Language Requirement: Proficiency in English is required for this position due to the frequent communications that must be conducted in English with various stakeholders. This requirement is justified by the nature of the responsibilities and operational needs.
