Position Overview
Justice Technology Services is seeking an Intermediate Web Specialist to support the development and modernization of a new WordPress public-facing website and internal intranet site for the Ontario Court of Justice.
The successful candidate will work closely with UX/UI designers, stakeholders, technical teams and project members to translate wireframes, design specifications and user requirements into functional, accessible and responsive web components.
The role requires strong hands-on experience with WordPress, PHP, JavaScript, HTML5, CSS3, responsive web design, accessibility/WCAG, web development frameworks and open-source technologies, along with the ability to work effectively in a Government of Ontario environment.
Key Responsibilities
The Web Specialist will:
- Develop website components and custom web templates based on UX/UI design specifications.
- Develop, update, analyze and edit website content and functionality.
- Create website graphics and navigational components.
- Research, evaluate and integrate web plugins to satisfy design and functionality requirements.
- Implement websites using WordPress CMS in both staging and production environments.
- Develop custom code using PHP, JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
- Translate UX/UI specifications, parameters and wireframes into functional website components.
- Ensure websites comply with accessibility and usability requirements.
- Implement responsive websites that work effectively across:
- PCs
- Macintosh systems
- Mobile phones
- Tablets
- Various screen sizes and devices
- Migrate existing web content to newly developed platforms.
- Develop custom website maintenance documentation for internal IT teams.
- Create web style guides supporting consistent content updates.
- Develop website maintenance processes and documentation.
- Train technical staff and/or business users on ongoing website maintenance.
- Work with stakeholders and technical teams to deliver a user-centric Ontario Court of Justice intranet.
- Ensure websites and web content comply with Government of Ontario standards.
Requirements
Mandatory Requirements
Candidates must meet all of the following mandatory requirements:
- Minimum 4 years of professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience in the analysis, development, design, testing and implementation of enterprise websites.
- Hands-on experience with standard web programming environments, including:
- HTML5
- CSS3
- JavaScript
- PHP
- JavaScript web frameworks such as NodeJS, React, Vue and/or Angular
- Experience with open-source technologies and initiatives, including:
- Linux
- WordPress
- WordPress Plugins
- Drupal
- Lucene-based search engines such as Solr and/or Elasticsearch

- Experience with interface design, implementation and testing.
- Experience designing and creating websites for multiple languages and audiences.
- Experience in accessibility testing and knowledge of accessibility principles and internationally recognized guidelines, specifically WCAG 2.1 Level AA or higher.
