Join a company that is passionately committed to the pursuit of a better world through positive change. With more than 70 years of business and technical expertise in mining, energy, and infrastructure, our 10,000 colleagues in 150 countries tirelessly work toward bettering the industries in which we operate. With practical solutions that are safe, innovative and sustainable, we think globally while acting locally. This is a unique opportunity: Hatch’s depth of engineering and technical expertise, combined with our strong social and community engagement capabilities, creates a compelling value proposition for our clients and enables us to tackle some of the most complex and rewarding projects.

As a Senior Consultant, you will work collaboratively with clients, communities, stakeholders, lenders, and Hatch technical teams to develop sustainable and mutually beneficial projects across the metals, energy, and infrastructure sectors. This position reports to the Regional Director, Eastern Canada, Environment, People & Place.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and deliver community engagement and social performance assignments in Eastern Canada and beyond, including social impact assessments, social management strategies, Indigenous and community engagement programs, local and Indigenous participation strategies, and related services.

  • Manage and coordinate projects on behalf of our clients.

  • Mentor and grow a team of community engagement and social performance practitioners while ensuring high-quality deliverables for mining, energy, and infrastructure sector clients.

  • Share your expertise through public events, conferences, webinars, online publications, and networking activities.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 to 15 years of experience in community and Indigenous engagement, communications, environmental assessment, and social performance.

  • Postsecondary degree in environmental planning, environmental science, communications, political science, conflict resolution, sustainable development, law, or a related field.

  • Proven experience in business development and generating consulting opportunities.

  • Strong understanding of the histories, cultures, and perspectives of rights holders and community groups in Eastern Canada, including Indigenous Peoples.

  • Demonstrated experience in Indigenous and community engagement.

  • Demonstrated project management and coordination experience.

  • Creative and flexible approach to solving complex challenges.

  • Strong understanding of environmental permitting and regulatory approval requirements.

  • Knowledge of international social best practices, including IFC Performance Standards, the Equator Principles, ILO Convention 169, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, would be considered an asset.

  • Experience working on major projects in the mining and metals, infrastructure, and energy sectors.

  • Willingness to travel within Canada and internationally as required.

  • Effective and collaborative communication and presentation skills, with the ability to plan and deliver high-quality client outcomes.
