Summary of Position
The Project Manager is responsible for overseeing the successful execution of multiple electronic security integration projects from initiation through completion. This role serves as the primary liaison between customers, internal departments, technicians, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with contractual and technical requirements.
The Project Manager provides leadership to field teams, manages project schedules, budgets, resources, and risks, and ensures high levels of customer satisfaction throughout the project lifecycle. The position requires a strong combination of technical knowledge in electronic security systems, project management expertise, financial acumen, and effective communication skills.
The successful candidate will work closely with Sales, Operations, Service, Purchasing, and Finance teams to coordinate resources, resolve project challenges, manage change orders, maintain project profitability, and ensure the delivery of high-quality security solutions that meet customer expectations and company standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage multiple security integration projects simultaneously from project handoff through completion, ensuring delivery on time, within budget, and in accordance with contractual requirements.
- Review project documentation, contracts, proposals, drawings, and specifications to validate scope, project requirements, schedules, budgets, and resource allocations.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, milestones, risk registers, and action plans to ensure successful project execution.
- Lead project kickoff meetings and maintain effective communication with customers, consultants, subcontractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Coordinate and oversee field technicians, subcontractors, and project resources to ensure efficient project execution and adherence to company standards.
- Monitor project costs, labour utilization, change orders, gross margins, and overall project profitability, taking corrective action where necessary.
- Identify, document, price, and manage project scope changes, ensuring proper approvals and timely communication with customers and internal teams.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor project progress, verify quality standards, address technical challenges, and ensure customer satisfaction.
- Review and approve project documentation including drawings, submittals, RFIs, closeout documentation, commissioning reports, and deficiency lists.
- Ensure all systems are installed, tested, commissioned, and documented in accordance with company standards, customer requirements, and applicable codes and regulations.
- Collaborate with Sales, Operations, Service, Purchasing, and Finance teams to support seamless project delivery and customer experience.
- Manage procurement requirements and coordinate equipment deliveries to support project schedules.
- Provide leadership, coaching, and mentorship to technical staff, promoting professional growth and continuous improvement.
- Monitor project risks and proactively develop mitigation strategies to minimize impacts on schedule, budget, and customer satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate project records and provide regular status updates, forecasts, and reports to management.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance processes, efficiencies, quality, and customer outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, health and safety requirements, customer site regulations, and applicable legislation.
- Participate in customer meetings, project reviews, and post-project evaluations to strengthen relationships and improve future project delivery.
- Stay current with emerging technologies, industry trends, and security integration best practices.
- Travel to project sites as required throughout Ontario and other regions as business needs dictate.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Requirements
- Post-secondary education in electronics security, security system implementation and design, security system technician, alarm technician, electronic engineering or something similar
- 5 years' experience as an Electronic Security Installation and/or Service Technician is required
- Supervisory experience is an asset
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Mail, Google Drive, Google Contacts and Google Calendar.
- Ability to mentor technical staff
- Ability to communicate in technical and non-technical language
- A strong working knowledge of industry-leading platforms such as: Genetec, Avigilon, Lenel, S2, Kantech, Axis, Commend, American Dynamics, DSC and Aiphone and more.
- Working knowledge of door hardware, automatic door operators, locking devices, and life safety integrations
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, construction drawings, and technical documentation.
- A clear understanding of revenue, job costing, gross margins, etc.
