Electrical and Automation Engineer

MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking an Electrical & Automation Engineer to work on a 1 year contract, with a high potential of renewal, for one of BC's largest utility companies.

Duties:

• Act in the role of Professional of Record or Owners Engineer in Electrical, Automation, Protection and Control disciplines for all of Non-Integrated Area's generation & energy storage facilities
• Provide technical support for diesel generation systems & energy storage facilities for off grid communities (100 kW – 10 MW) comprising of:
  • Diesel gensets and associated cooling systems, protection, controls, instrumentation, switchgear and fueling systems
  • Battery energy storage & power conversion systems, protection, controls, instrumentation, and switchgear
• Design, program, troubleshoot and commission a wide variety of intelligent electronic devices including: Generator and station PLC's and HMI's, Fuel system PLC's, Governor controls, SCADA systems, Protection relays and communication devices, and Microgrid controllers
• Prepare technical documentation including control narratives, specifications, standards, hazard logs, inspection & test plans, test procedures & reports, installation & commissioning procedures, operation & maintenance procedures, condition assessment reports, drawings and cable schedules
• Witness factory acceptance testing and oversee site installation and commissioning of diesel gensets, battery energy storage systems and associated equipment.
• Work with electrical maintenance crews and CPC Technologists to sign off on repair and re-commissioning of protection, control and automation devices.
• Help develop capital and maintenance plans
• Utilize MS CoPilot to enhance innovation and efficiency

Qualifications:

• Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Registered as a P.Eng. with EGBC
• Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience
• Demonstrated technical knowledge of diesel and hydro-electric generation
• Experience with the following PLC/HMI/SCADA/IED manufacturers:
  • Allen Bradley
  • Siemens
  • Schneider
  • SEL
  • Wonderware
• Must have demonstrated excellent written, communication, organizational and conflict resolution skills
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work competently with crews, peers, and senior management
• Experience in use of Artificial Intelligence

Additional:

• Required to travel to facilities in off-grid and remote communities for a minimum of 5 weeks per year
• Class 5 BC Driver's license
