Job description

SUMMARY
Our client is a leading, West GTA, designer and manufacturer of custom automation equipment and is seeking an experienced Mechanical Assembler to join their growing team on a 6+ month contract. This hands-on role is responsible for building automation machinery and complex mechanical sub-assemblies from technical drawings, schematics, and work instructions. The successful candidate will play a key role in machine builds, ensuring equipment is assembled accurately, safely, and to the highest quality standards while collaborating with Engineering, Project Management, and Procurement teams. This opportunity is ideal for a mechanically inclined professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced automation environment, troubleshooting challenges, mentoring others, and taking ownership of projects from assembly through final acceptance testing.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of experience assembling:
    • Automation equipment
    • Industrial machinery
    • Custom machinery
    • Mechanical systems
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, automation, or machine-building environment

Education

  • Technical diploma in:
    • Mechanical Engineering Technology
    • Industrial Maintenance
    • Manufacturing Engineering
    • Automation Technology
  • Equivalent mechanical assembly experience will also be considered

Technical Skills

  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and assembly documentation
  • Experience assembling:
    • Machine frames
    • Conveyors
    • Bearings
    • Gearboxes
    • Pneumatic systems
    • Mechanical components
  • Experience working with hand tools, power tools, measuring instruments, and assembly equipment
  • Ability to interpret 3D models and computer-based technical drawings
  • Strong troubleshooting and mechanical problem-solving skills

Soft Skills

  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Leadership abilities with experience mentoring or training team members
  • Strong commitment to safety and quality

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Comfortable standing, bending, reaching, and working in a manufacturing environment
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and assembly equipment

RESPONSIBILITIES
Machinery Assembly & Fabrication

  • Assemble custom automation equipment and complex mechanical sub-assemblies according to engineering specifications
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, assembly instructions, schematics, 3D models, and technical documentation
  • Build and install machine frames, bearings, gearboxes, conveyors, pneumatic systems, and mechanical components
  • Perform precise mechanical alignment and assembly to required tolerances and specifications
  • Ensure completed assemblies meet quality, performance, and safety standards

Troubleshooting & Continuous Improvement

  • Identify and troubleshoot assembly, machining, documentation, and design issues
  • Collaborate with Engineering teams to resolve build challenges and implement design changes
  • Support machine modifications, retrofits, upgrades, and equipment improvements
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives throughout assembly and testing phases

Project Coordination

  • Work closely with Engineering, Procurement, and Project Management teams to meet project deadlines
  • Participate in daily production and project meetings
  • Assist with factory acceptance testing (FAT) and final machine preparation
  • Support project completion activities and customer delivery schedules

Leadership & Team Support

  • Mentor, train, and support junior assemblers
  • Promote a positive, team-oriented work environment
  • Share technical knowledge and best practices with team members

Safety & Quality

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment
  • Comply with all health and safety procedures, including lockout/tagout requirements
  • Follow quality standards and established assembly procedures
