This Volunteer Placement is Located in: Lima, Peru

Start Date: November 2026

Placement Length: 5 months

Language Requirements: Spanish Level 4-Advanced

The Volunteer’s Role

Bring your expertise to Peru and help strengthen technical education for the next generation of students and skilled professionals.

As an Institutional and Pedagogical Strengthening Advisor, you will work alongside the “Carlos Cueto Fernandini” Public Institute of Higher Technological Education, a public institution serving more than 1,600 students. The institute is advancing an important modernization, quality assurance, and accreditation process, and your experience will help strengthen institutional management, improve teaching and learning practices, support internationalization, and build stronger links with the private sector.

This volunteer opportunity is ideal for a professional who wants to share practical knowledge, introduce international best practices, and support long-term improvements in technical education. Your contribution will help faculty, administrators, students, and graduates benefit from stronger systems, better learning experiences, and improved pathways to employment.

The volunteer will collaborate with the partner organization to strengthen capacity in institutional management, employability, research, and innovation. This includes supporting the development of management documents for licensing and positioning, reviewing academic program profiles and curricula, and helping design strategies to improve workplace culture, customer service, real-world training experiences (EFSRT), and the adoption of international best practices that support inclusive economic development for students and graduates.

As a volunteer, you will:

  • Support the development of institutional management documents through a collaborative, consensus-based process to advance institutional licensing and accreditation.
  • Contribute to the creation of manuals, procedures, and management indicators that strengthen institutional effectiveness and quality assurance.
  • Design and lead training initiatives for faculty and administrative staff in employability, skills development, career guidance, customer service, and public service.
  • Recommend innovations for academic programs, including program profiles, curricula, and learning approaches that respond to student and labour market needs.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience working within educational institutions, preferably with a focus on technical and vocational education and training (TVET).
  • Demonstrated experience engaging with youth and vulnerable populations.
  • Experience in institutional strengthening, organizational development, and the preparation of management and governance documents.
  • Strong knowledge and application of results-based management (RBM) principles.
  • Experience supporting institutional positioning and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement strategic plans.

Essential Background:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Business Administration, Economics, Industrial Engineering, Public Management, or a related field.

Volunteer Support and Requirements

Support Package

Cuso International provides a comprehensive support package to ensure volunteers maintain a modest and healthy lifestyle aligned with local standards. This includes:

  • Monthly living allowance
  • Accommodation
  • Health insurance (including required vaccinations and antimalarial medication)
  • Round-trip airfare and visa/work permit costs
  • Pre-placement, in-country and reintegration training (along with access to self-directed materials and online resources)

Selection and Screening

If you are shortlisted, you will need to:

  • Confirm passport or permanent resident details for travel
  • Provide two professional references and one personal reference
  • Complete a language assessment during the initial phone interview
  • Pass a police check and medical clearance before departure
  • Comply with anti-terrorism checks
  • Agree to uphold the Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) policy and Code of Conduct
