About the Role

A leading energy infrastructure organization is migrating its FP&A planning environment from SAP BPC to SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) Planning and has no in-house SAC Planning expertise today. This role exists to bring that expertise onto the client side while an external system integrator leads the technical build. The relationship is joint-led: the SI drives design and configuration, and this person sits on the client side, evaluating what is proposed, asking whether it is the right approach, and making sure the direction aligns with what the business actually needs. Global design begins January 2027; the first 90 days are spent getting up to speed on current planning processes and preparing workshop material for FP&A requirements-gathering sessions running through Q1 2027.

The ideal person is an SAC Planning specialist who has been through large-scale ERP implementations end to end and can do more than describe SAC mechanics in the abstract. What sets strong candidates apart here is the ability to walk through a real example of turning a messy business planning requirement into a working SAC Planning model. This person communicates comfortably across FP&A stakeholders, IT, finance leadership, and a joint delivery team that includes an offshore component, and they can operate effectively without needing to own the full build outright.

Key Responsibilities

1. Represent the client side in a joint-led delivery model with an external system integrator, evaluating proposed design decisions and validating that they align with actual business needs
2. Translate live FP&A business processes into working SAC Planning model designs, covering advanced formulas, allocations, versions, and scenarios
3. Design and build planning outputs including reports, stories, and dashboards on SAC Planning functionality
4. Prepare and facilitate FP&A requirements-gathering workshops, proposing realistic and deliverable SAC enhancements rather than an unconstrained wish list
5. Identify and understand integration points between the SAC Planning workstream and a parallel S/4HANA implementation
6. Support data migration activities and participate in SIT/UAT testing across the planning transformation
7. Engage a broad stakeholder group spanning FP&A, CFO organization, IT, Data, and Projects teams, translating technical concepts clearly for non-technical audiences
8. Get ahead on planning areas the system integrator has not yet reached, leveraging SAC Planning's iterative build pattern as the program matures

Required Skills & Experience

• Hands-on SAC Planning implementation experience (confirmed day-one requirement; SAC reporting or dashboard exposure alone does not meet this bar)
• Experience on large-scale, complex ERP implementations across the full lifecycle: global design, build, and go-live
• Working depth in SAC Planning functionality: advanced formulas, allocations, versions, and scenarios, across both model build and output design
• Demonstrated ability to translate a business planning process into a technical planning-tool design, not just describe SAC functionality in the abstract
• Prior hands-on SAP S/4HANA implementation experience and a solid understanding of how planning integrates with core finance processes
• Experience with data migration and SIT/UAT testing on a large ERP or planning transformation
• Strong communication skills across technical and non-technical stakeholders; strong written communication can offset a less polished verbal style where the technical and business-translation background is solid
• Eligible to work in Canada without employer sponsorship (Canadian candidates); US work authorization for candidates based in the Houston area

Preferred Skills

• Experience with SAP Seamless Planning (a preference, not a requirement)
• Experience with SAP Datasphere, SAP BW, or an equivalent enterprise data platform
• Experience configuring SAP security roles and data access
• Prior experience partnering directly with FP&A stakeholders and working alongside a system integrator in a joint-led delivery model
• Background in financial planning and analysis processes
• Change management experience on large ERP adoptions
• Exposure to AI-enabled planning use cases
• Prior experience in oil and gas, energy infrastructure, or utilities (explicitly not a disqualifier if absent)
