Part-Time Teaching Position – English Language Learner (ELL)

The successful candidate

will hold a valid British Columbia teaching certificate, a valid ELL (IELTS or TEFL) certificate, and legal authorization to work in Canada. Fluency in English and Mandarin Chinese is an asset, as is past experience working in an ELL school environment. Applicants who already hold a BC teaching certificate will be given priority. The individual must model high professional and ethical standards, as expected of a teacher at an academically focused independent school in British Columbia. Responsibilities include planning and teaching effective lessons, managing the classroom, building supportive relationships with students, and contributing to the school's extra-curricular program. The chosen candidate will develop and teach ELL curriculum to support the academic success of all learners. They will develop and implement support services, such as tutoring and volunteer programs, to enhance student learning outcomes. St. Lawrence School's classes run from September 2026 to June 2027. Courses are scheduled within our regular school day rotating block schedule. The chosen candidate's availability must be flexible to meet the school's rotating block schedule. The ELL class meets daily (Monday to Friday) for either 55 or 70 minutes. Vacancy Summary Location: St. Lawrence School – Vancouver, BC Position: Part-time Teaching Positions – English Language Learning (ELL) FTE: (0.4) Compensation Package: $35 - $45 per hour (depending on experience) Start Date: Classes begin in September 2026 Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications: Provincially qualified teachers in good standing. Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with internal and external community members. Understanding of other cultures and the ability to communicate in cross-cultural environments. Ability to be tactful, demonstrate excellent judgment, and work as a positive and collaborative team member. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, teachers, parents, staff, and community members. Ability to identify and assist students with emotional and other health concerns. Enthusiastic, energetic, a self-starter with the ability to work independently. Well-organized, with the ability to meet deadlines. A willingness to follow the school's policies and procedures. Enjoy leadership in extra-curricular student-based activities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and other educational technology.
