We’re looking for a really great human to spend time with an energetic, curious, thoughtful and neurodivergent 12-year-old who is learning outside of a traditional classroom setting. This isn’t a traditional tutoring job. We’re looking for someone who understands that learning and growth can happen through curiosity, movement, play, conversation, shared interests and real-life experiences — and who genuinely enjoys connecting with kids who think and experience the world a little differently. You might be the right person if you: -are calm and patient, but also fun, interesting and willing to get involved understand neurodivergence and respect a young person’s need for autonomy -know how to de-escalate rather than escalate and don’t get drawn into unnecessary power struggles -can provide guidance and appropriate boundaries without being pushy or controlling -know when to encourage, redirect, change course or give some space are active, curious and creative, and willing to follow an interest down a rabbit hole -can introduce new ideas and experiences without needing everything to go according to plan -could become a positive mentor and role model — someone he can trust, learn from, have fun with and genuinely look forward to seeing What might you do together? It will vary. There might be trips to the library, cooking, projects, bike riding, strategy games, exploring an interest in airplanes, getting outside or researching a completely unexpected question. Some days might include something more structured. Other days might mostly involve playing, being active, talking, exploring an interest or simply spending time together. We’re comfortable with that. We’re less concerned with what learning is supposed to look like and more interested in finding someone who can build a genuine connection, follow his curiosity and recognize the learning and growth that can happen naturally along the way. You don’t need to be a teacher. You might be studying Education, Psychology, Kinesiology, Health Sciences, Social Science or something completely different. Experience with neurodivergent children, camps, coaching, tutoring, recreation, respite or mentoring is an asset, but who you are with kids matters just as much to us as what’s on your résumé. The practical stuff Schedule: Mondays and Tuesdays, generally 3–5 hours per day within the 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. timeframe. Hours can be flexible around a university schedule. A parent works from home and will generally be present while giving you space to develop your own routine Transportation: A driver’s licence and vehicle are an asset but not required.
