Description

The Fraud Analyst is responsible for identifying, investigating, analyzing and helping disrupt fraudulent or illegal activity that may impact Purolator’s financial integrity, customers, employees and company assets. The role combines fraud intelligence, transaction monitoring, investigative analysis, chargeback management, data analytics and cross-functional collaboration to strengthen fraud prevention controls and reduce exposure.The successful candidate demonstrates strong analytical thinking, investigative curiosity, sound judgment, effective communication and a continuous improvement mindset. They are able to translate complex data into actionable insights, identify emerging fraud risks and recommend practical solutions that improve controls, decision-making and the overall fraud prevention operating model.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate, monitor, detect and analyze suspected fraudulent or illegal activities involving customers, employees, transactions or other business activity.
  • Support the identification and disruption of fraud-related transactions using fraud intelligence, analytics, systems and investigative techniques.
  • Proactively develop and recommend fraud prevention strategies, controls and action plans to reduce e-commerce claims, chargebacks, fraud losses and related exposure.
  • Monitor and review transactions, fraud alerts and chargeback alerts within established service-level expectations, escalating material risks as appropriate.
  • Create and maintain feedback loops to optimize fraud rules, rulesets and detection strategies based on emerging trends, patterns, outcomes and root-cause findings.
  • Document fraud cases thoroughly in ThinkLP or the applicable case-management system to maintain a complete, accurate and auditable investigation trail.
  • Analyze structured and unstructured data to identify anomalies, trends, threat vectors and control gaps, and develop appropriate safeguards and recommendations to protect company assets.
  • Build high-value reporting, dashboards and data visualizations that translate fraud and chargeback data into clear, actionable business insights.
  • Develop compelling evidence packages to support the defence of fraudulent claims and chargebacks and improve recovery outcomes.
  • Lead or contribute to analytical projects involving large and complex datasets, including root-cause analysis and assessment of fraud drivers.
  • Maintain fraud and chargeback inventories and support enterprise-level linkages with relevant fusion, security, loss prevention and business teams.
  • Partner across the Security & Loss Prevention (S&LP) team to identify opportunities to automate evidence collection, case dispositions, documentation, reporting and other fraud-management processes.
  • Support the development of variables, logic and analytical inputs that contribute to a robust fraud decision engine and fraud detection model.
  • Manage multiple investigations and analytical priorities simultaneously while maintaining strong attention to detail and prioritizing work based on risk, urgency and business impact.
  • Provide guidance to internal departments and team members regarding suspicious activity, fraud concerns, investigative findings and appropriate courses of action.
  • Collaborate with National, Regional and Divisional Loss Prevention leaders to improve day-to-day fraud operations, controls, reporting and information sharing.
  • Develop and maintain relevant professional relationships with fraud investigation, loss prevention and industry associations to support awareness of emerging risks and leading practices.
  • Continuously assess and improve fraud prevention processes, controls, workflows and reporting to strengthen the overall operating model.

Experience & Skills

  • Experience in fraud analysis, fraud investigations, loss prevention, financial crime, chargebacks, risk analytics, e-commerce fraud, security analytics or a related analytical/investigative environment.
  • Demonstrated experience analyzing data, transactions, cases or behavioural patterns to identify anomalies, trends, root causes and potential fraud indicators.
  • Experience conducting investigations and documenting findings in a clear, accurate and defensible manner; experience with case-management tools such as ThinkLP is an asset.
  • Experience reviewing fraud alerts, chargebacks, claims or transaction exceptions and making risk-based decisions within established timelines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work with large volumes of structured and unstructured information and convert findings into practical recommendations.
  • Ability to create meaningful reporting and data visualizations and communicate analytical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong investigative curiosity and professional judgment, including the ability to recognize emerging risk patterns, ask effective follow-up questions and determine appropriate escalation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex analytical work into concise insights, evidence and recommendations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple investigations, projects and competing priorities while maintaining accuracy, confidentiality and attention to detail.
  • Experience collaborating across functions such as Security, Loss Prevention, Finance, Operations, Customer Experience, Technology or other business teams is an asset.
  • Experience identifying process-improvement or automation opportunities within fraud, investigations, analytics or risk-management workflows is an asset.
  • Knowledge of fraud typologies, e-commerce fraud, chargeback processes, fraud controls and/or investigative practices is preferred.

Experience

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in Business, Finance, Accounting, Criminology, Data Analytics, Risk Management, Security, Law Enforcement or a related discipline.
  • An equivalent combination of relevant education, professional training and directly related fraud, investigative, analytical or loss-prevention experience may be considered.
  • Fraud, investigation, analytics, risk, loss prevention or financial-crime certifications and professional development are considered assets.

Language Requirement: Proficiency in English is required for this position due to the frequent communications that must be conducted in English with various stakeholders. This requirement is justified by the nature of the responsibilities and operational needs.
