Project Manager – Utility Operations & Contractor Coordination
Location: Fort St. John, Terrace, or Prince George, BC
Duration: 12-Month Contract
Work Arrangement: Hybrid
MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking an experienced Project Manager – Utility Operations & Contractor Coordination to support one of British Columbia’s largest utility providers. This role will provide project, contractor, maintenance, and operational coordination across multiple locations in Northern BC.
The successful candidate will bring a strong technical foundation in electrical engineering or engineering technology, along with experience coordinating contractors, maintenance activities, work orders, documentation, financial administration, and project deliverables within a utility, industrial, power generation, transmission, or construction environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate contractor schedules, site access, activities, and weekly progress reporting.
- Track contractor findings, deficiencies, corrective actions, and outstanding deliverables.
- Act as a key liaison between contractors, operations, engineering, asset management, maintenance, and project teams.
- Review contractor invoices, supporting documentation, work-order references, and completed work.
- Support cost allocation reviews, invoice approvals, audits, and financial reporting.
- Track open work orders, notifications, corrective actions, technical completion requirements, and closeout activities.
- Generate backlog and aging reports and support maintenance documentation and records retention.
- Maintain engineering drawings, project documentation, drawing packages, record drawings, and turnover documentation.
- Maintain project tracking logs, status reports, schedules, action items, and closeout requirements.
- Support administrative requirements associated with NERC compliance programs, audits, training records, and access management.
- Coordinate the receipt, tracking, staging, and storage of materials and equipment.
- Develop standardized reports, dashboards, performance metrics, and workload tracking tools.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes, reporting, documentation, and administrative efficiency.
- Ensure contractor work and project documentation align with established operational and company standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or a Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology with significant relevant experience.
- Minimum 7 years of progressively responsible experience within utility, industrial, power generation, transmission, construction, maintenance, project delivery, or asset management environments.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating contractors, contract administration, construction activities, maintenance programs, or capital projects.
- Experience interpreting engineering drawings, technical specifications, maintenance records, and project documentation.
- Experience coordinating activities between contractors, operations, engineering, maintenance, and project stakeholders.
- Experience with work management systems, maintenance planning, or asset management programs.
- Experience reviewing contractor invoices, validating completed work, and supporting cost-control or budget processes.
- Experience with project documentation, turnover packages, records management, and regulatory compliance.
- Strong understanding of technical work scopes, contractor deliverables, schedules, and completion requirements.
- Proficiency with SAP.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.
- Strong leadership, stakeholder management, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to independently manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and accountability.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
- Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation.
- Electric utility experience involving generation, transmission, substations, or system operations.
- Experience supporting NERC compliance programs, regulatory audits, or operational compliance requirements.
- Experience coordinating multiple contractors and technical projects across geographically dispersed locations.
- Experience developing dashboards, performance metrics, standardized reporting, and process improvements.
