MatchBox Consulting Group is seeking an experienced Generation Stations Project Engineer to support one of British Columbia’s largest utility providers. This is a senior engineering opportunity focused on the delivery of large, technically complex hydroelectric generation infrastructure projects.

The successful candidate will lead and coordinate the engineering component of major projects, managing scope, schedule, cost, technical risk, and multidisciplinary engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle. Projects may include new generating units, powerhouse reconstruction, major plant and unit upgrades, dam safety projects, and spillway upgrades.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities for complex generation infrastructure projects.
  • Manage the engineering scope, schedule, cost, resources, and technical risks associated with assigned projects.
  • Perform the Owner’s Engineer Lead role where engineering is completed by external consultants, contractors, or equipment vendors.
  • Coordinate internal technical reviews and acceptance of third-party engineering designs and deliverables.
  • Establish engineering design and review plans, strategies, schedules, and resource requirements.
  • Coordinate and oversee the development of technical specifications, drawings, and other engineering documentation.
  • Identify and manage technical risks, including integration with existing generation systems and operations.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to ensure engineering activities align with overall project objectives.
  • Collaborate with Construction, Contract Management, Engineering, Quality Management, and Field Operations throughout manufacturing, construction, and commissioning.
  • Provide technical leadership to resolve complex design, construction, commissioning, and field engineering issues.
  • Manage or support engineering consultant contracts as required.
  • Prepare and review recommendations on complex project matters and present technical information to senior management and executives.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and mentorship to engineering professionals and project team members.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering, with Electrical or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Registered, or eligible for immediate registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC).
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive engineering experience, with a primary focus on the design of hydroelectric power plants and/or dams and associated equipment.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience leading and coordinating multidisciplinary design or engineering teams on medium to large projects.
  • Strong understanding of generation systems and operations and the interactions required to successfully deliver multidisciplinary projects.
  • Experience across the complete project lifecycle, from conceptual design through construction, testing, and commissioning, is an asset.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, technical writing, decision-making, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Strong understanding of project management processes and principles.
  • Ability to coordinate and influence internal teams, consultants, contractors, delivery partners, and other stakeholders.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience managing Owner’s Engineer reviews of multidisciplinary engineering completed by external consultants or vendors.
  • Site experience on major construction projects involving hydroelectric generation stations, dams, or transmission substations.
  • Strong electric utility engineering background.
  • Experience with generation station planning, design, construction, and operations.
  • Experience supporting technically complex, high-profile infrastructure projects from design through commissioning.

Additional Requirements

  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project and facility locations throughout British Columbia, with occasional travel outside the province.
