Job description

Job Summary:

The Trainer - Intermediate role supports the Government of Alberta's 1GX enterprise resource planning (ERP) system by leading government-wide training and outreach initiatives. This position involves conducting learning needs assessments, designing and delivering diverse learning solutions, facilitating training sessions, and ensuring training quality and accessibility. The trainer collaborates with stakeholders to align training with business outcomes and continuously improves learning materials using feedback and performance data.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead government-wide 1GX training initiatives through needs assessments and role-based strategy development.
  • Assess target audiences, job roles, and business processes to create relevant and practical learning solutions.
  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain instructor-led, virtual, e-learning, multimedia, and performance support materials.
  • Apply adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, and accessibility standards in content creation.
  • Facilitate live and virtual training sessions for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Partner with leadership, subject-matter experts, and vendors to gather requirements and validate training content.
  • Manage multiple training projects, including planning, prioritization, risk management, and stakeholder communication.
  • Follow training governance processes such as quality assurance, version control, and accessibility reviews.
  • Evaluate training effectiveness using learner feedback, assessments, and performance data; implement improvements.
  • Utilize approved digital, multimedia, collaboration, and AI-enabled tools in compliance with policies and standards.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to junior trainers and contributors.

Required Skills & Certifications:

  • University graduation in a related field (e.g., Adult Education, Instructional Design, Business Administration) plus two years of relevant experience, or diploma with four years of experience, or equivalent.
  • Experience conducting learning needs analysis, audience and role assessment, and requirements gathering.
  • Experience designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining end-to-end learning solutions including instructor-led and virtual training, e-learning, multimedia, and performance support resources.
  • Experience facilitating instructor-led and virtual training for diverse technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Standard background check clearance.
  • Completion of mandatory training courses such as Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and Security awareness training.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

  • Experience designing or configuring digital adoption platforms and in-application performance support tools like WalkMe.
  • Experience developing accessible e-learning, instructional video, audio, or multimedia content using tools such as Articulate 360, Rise, Captivate, Camtasia, Canva, Vyond, or Adobe products.
  • Experience gathering requirements, facilitating reviews, and reconciling competing feedback with subject-matter experts and stakeholders.
  • Experience using AI-enabled tools to support instructional design, content development, and communications.
  • Experience using learner feedback, assessments, and adoption indicators to evaluate and improve training effectiveness.
  • Experience with ERP systems training such as Finance, HCM or Payroll, Supply Chain Management, SAP, Oracle, Workday, or 1GX.

Special Considerations:

  • Work must be performed from within Canada due to network and data security requirements.
  • Position requires working from the office five days a week.
  • Use of government-supplied laptop or desktop is required.
  • Compliance with Government of Alberta policies and standards, including privacy and accessibility.

Scheduling:

  • Standard hours of work are Monday through Friday, 08:15 to 16:30 Alberta time, excluding provincial holidays.
