Job Description

The Shift Supervisor is responsible for directing the process operators on their assigned shift, on behalf of processing operations for the new Louis Dreyfus Company Pea Protein Isolate (“PPI”) Facility that is currently being constructed as part of LDC’s processing facility in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Canada. The Shift Supervisor is required to participate in a rotational shift schedule, and must be able to work day/night shifts as assigned and scheduled.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Work closely with other Shift Supervisors, facility management, and onsite colleagues in a collaborative and professional manner, to ensure efficient operational running of the facility.
  • Ensure we produce quality products in a safe and efficient manner and in compliance with government regulations and Company standards.
  • Coordinate production startup, shutdowns, CIP processes, and changeovers.
  • Respond to equipment issues and process alarms. Investigates and resolves problems. Conducts regular and frequent “walkthrough” of production areas assessing housekeeping, sanitation, and process operation. Trains operators in proper techniques.
  • Provide thorough and clear updates to all involved parties in regard to operation of the plant. (reduced rate, stoppages, equipment malfunction).
  • Conducts quality control tests, food safety tests, enters data, and operates the HMI in the plant as needed to support the process operators.
  • Analyzes process data to optimize plant efficiencies and product quality as needed to support the process operators.
  • Lead the Emergency Response of any plant emergency situation. Contacts appropriate authorities as needed.
  • Call-in appropriate supervisors, maintenance, and contractors as needed to support plant operation.
  • Assist with planning the daily activities of the production staff. Issues work assignments accordingly. Serves as the liaison between plant management and production staff.
  • Ensure proper coverage by managing schedules and calling in help as needed.
  • Complete regular checks of staff and equipment throughout their shift to ensure that standard operating procedures are being followed, food safety standards are maintained, and company quality standards are met. Reports deviations to the department supervisor Production Manager.
  • Provide training as needed. Enforces policy with disciplinary action if necessary.
  • Ensure that established environmental procedures are followed and recordkeeping requirements are met.
  • Assist with the routine maintenance of all assigned equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with Company safety and food safety rules by self and others. Wears proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required in fulfillment of assigned responsibilities. Enforces policy with disciplinary action.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP requirements for a high sanitation food plant including but not limited to hairnets, beard nets, and restrictions on jewelry and cosmetics.
  • Work in an organized, safe, and clean manner, ensures work areas are kept clean and free from all safety hazards.
  • Lead general sanitation quality, and food safety processes for the facility during their shift.
  • Lead shutdown activities as needed.
  • Direct the unloading and loading of raw materials, intermediate, and final products as needed.
  • Operate Powered Mobile Equipment (PME) including but not limited to skid steers, forklifts, and front-end loaders.
  • General responsibilities in all areas of operations, food safety, procurement, quality, health & safety, transportation, logistics, internal & external maintenance of facility.


Qualifications

Education/Professional Certifications/License

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Varying levels of Engineering will be considered (Engineer-in-Training, Professional Engineer, etc.)
  • Project Management designation is preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience is also preferred.
  • Previous work experience from a wet or dry food manufacturing facility required.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (including any physical demands)

  • Decision-making ability and leadership skills.
  • Previous work experience in an industrial facility is required.
  • Experience in a highly automated production facility is preferred.
  • Technical degree, post-secondary credits, or vocational training is preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience in any of the following industries:
    • Grain Products
    • Dairy
    • Food and Beverage
    • Pharmaceutical industries preferred.
  • Must have knowledge of manufacturing processes and procedures.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and be proficient in entire Microsoft Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams.
  • Able to operate machinery and computer control systems along with regulatory food safety, safety and environment requirements, e.g., Federal, provincial OH&S, Environmental, CFIA / FSSC preferred.
  • Must have a passion for quality and food safety to foster a culture focused on world class performance in the food industry.
  • Must have an enthusiasm for the food and beverage industry and contribute to a larger team and perform as part of an expanding site and global company.
  • Able to adapt to changing schedule as needed to support plant commissioning and production ramp up.
  • Adaptable, and able to work with many different personalities and procedures.
  • Detail-orientated, with strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize workload.
  • Ability to work independently and manage various daily requirements.
  • Ability to thrive in all types of work environments (colder temperatures with appropriate PPE, climbing stairs & scaffolds, occasionally lifting and pushing up to 50 lbs)
