The Role As a key member of our team the Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a variety of repair and maintenance tasks to ensure our facilities are in optimal condition.

Key responsibilities include performing minor repairs and adjustments to building systems, maintaining heating and air conditioning systems, and conducting routine inspections on emergency generators and life safety equipment.

Additionally, the technician will maintain and repair pool systems, test and adjust pool water chemicals, and log and monitor various pumps and filters.

The role requires following strict safety procedures, detecting and reporting building deficiencies, and ensuring the proper use and care of company tools, vehicles, and equipment.

Your contributions to the team include: Perform minor repairs and adjustments to building fabric and related systems, such as interior walls, ceilings, flooring, furniture, roofing, windows, and overhead, interior, and exterior doors.

Maintain heating and air conditioning systems, boilers, swimming pools, pumps, fan units, control panels, cooling towers, etc.

Perform repairs and adjustments to building plumbing and electrical systems, such as washroom fixtures, pumps, domestic water systems, fountains, lighting repairs, and thermostats.

Perform routine inspections on emergency generators; service and test life safety equipment such as emergency lighting and fire extinguishers.

Maintain and repair pool systems, including performing minor repairs to pool pumps and chemical feed systems, vacuuming and/or brushing pool walls and surfaces, and backwashing pool filters and disinfecting pool decks.

Test samples from the pool water and adjust chemicals to ensure pH, bromine, and chlorine levels align with Vancouver Island Health Authority requirements.

Detect faulty operations, defective materials, and report deficiencies in the building to the supervisor.

Follow safety procedures during all repairs and maintenance.

Log and monitor the variety of pumps and filters and adjust as required.

Follow up on work completed by external contractors and report any issues to the supervisor.

Responsible for the use and care/maintenance of company tools, vehicles, and equipment.

A few things we are looking for in a new team member: 2 years experience in a maintenance or repair position.

Experience troubleshooting a variety of technical and mechanical issues autonomously.

  • Previous experience working as part of a team with common goals and vision.
  • Demonstrated time management skills with ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.

Must be able to assess a situation for danger or safety issues and act accordingly.

Trades certificate is an asset.

Experience in a minimum of 2 of the following areas: pool operations, electrical, H-VAC, plumbing, carpentry, engineering.

Valid driver’s license.

Competent in operating computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).

Strong computer skills and ability to navigate MS office and cell applications.

Communication and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to relate well with other staff and guests.

Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools.

Aerial Platform Operator, Skid Steer, and forklift training an asset.

Strong time management skills with ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
